We also want to keep Coleman as he is a good mentor figure for the kids. Kupari isn't a need, he is also not really a center, let alone a top 6 one lol.
Mangiapane is actually the exact type of player Ottawa should want and needs. Also he is not on a bad contract, he is very fairly paid. Gritty, high energy, high work ethic 2-way winger in his prime with nearly every single one of his points at even strength. Has played the 4th hardest minutes in the league amoung forwards and has a positive corsi vs elite competition. He also has an expected goals of over 21 this year so he's been quite unlucky with scoring considering he's only at 13.</div></div>
Hey, if you're fine paying him 6M for ~15g/45pts, that's cool. I don't begrudge the player. He put up 35g in a contract year and got the bag, good for him.
Mathieu Joseph is a high energy, 2way winger, plays gritty, good even strength player, kills penalties real good too. Puts up similar point totals too (at least this season). He makes 3M and is in his prime. That's half the price. Sure, Joseph won't put up 35g, but that seems to be an outlier for Mangiapane and not the norm.
Sens don't have cap space to pay that much for someone that doesn't put up the points. There are 2 way vets available every year in FA that doesn't require a 6M investment. And, their prospect pool is shallow so a high 2nd is valuable to them.

Did I say Norris contract was good? Pretty sure I've mentioned in other threads that Norris' contract is untradable.
In Norris's defense, even with a twice rebuilt bad shoulder, he managed to put up 16g in 50 games. That's more goals in 20 fewer games. What's Mangiapane's excuse?

Sorry, but Sens decline.
Mangiapane is making nearly 6M per year and not putting up the points to back it up. Sens aren't giving up a high second round pick for a winger on a bad contract.

Bad trades dude.
We want nothing to do with PLD. I'd rather super glue Norris' shoulder back together than do PLD.
Whitecloud is on a really good deal and much more valuable than JBD (and I'm a JBD fan). Vegas ain't trading him, let alone paying to do so.
The Weegar ship sailed when he signed with Flames. As long as Calgary doesn't rebuild, he won't be moved. Even if they wanted to, he's a really good RD so it would cost a lot to get him, and Chychrun's value isn't great.
I doubt we get a 6th for Forsberg.
Pinto doesn't sign for that little. He's been playing 1C. If he signs longterm, expect a couple more million on that AAV

Norris has no trade value right now. Three seasons in a row with a shoulder injury, two of those requiring surgery.
No GM is touching that contract, unless it's a team that's tanking and hopes for LTIR to cut costs.
The only way I see Norris being traded is if he comes back and puts in 1-2 full seasons without major injury and scoring 25-30 goals each season.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>turtlemountain</b></div><div>Kovalenko is a bust? Repeat that back to me lol</div></div>
24 years old, no NHL games yet (even though he was signed by Colorado in the summer). His goal production has dipped quite a bit from last season, and on a mid KHL team (based on standings, I don't actually follow KHL), so if he's good, he'd likely be getting a lot of playing time.
Sorry if that doesn't scream elite prospect to me.
If you're argument is that he ain't a bust cause he was a 6th round pick, sure, whatever. A draft pick is a draft pick in my book, but whatever.
Either way, he ain't worth Drake

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SolarHarbor</b></div><div>How many 1st round picks does it take before OTT figures out their problem is the .888 SV% and get a real goalie</div></div>
What makes you think they don't know that? If reports are true, they tried to trade for Ullmark.
Unfortunately, teams in Canada, especially rebuilding teams, have a hard time acquiring top, proven talent. Sens have drafted goalies, some showing good promise, but they still need time to develop.
But they know. The head coach has called out the goalies. The previous regime has mentioned goaltending in many occasions. Media covering the Sens mentions the poor goaltending a lot. The organization is aware.
You may not be aware, but it's just plain hard to acquire great goaltending. A goalie can have a good year and a bad one the next. The ones that do it consistently though, orgs don't usually let them get to FA or trade them.

In Staios We Trust Or Nah
Habs fans always seem to be trying to acquire big names. Ottawa doesn't need Guentzel. That cap space needs to be spent on RD, forward middle/bottom 6 2way vets, and goaltending help.
Sens have plenty of scoring. Their issues is playing better defensively and reliable goaltending. Guentzel doesn't solve either. He's a "hope they can outscore their issues" solution, which Staios doesn't want.
That contract for Broissoit isn't enough. And I'm not sure he'd be target. How many times will Sens trade/sign for backups in hopes of solving goaltending. I feel like if Staios makes a move at goalie, he'd be more for trading for a proven 1A/starter. Else, you're just wasting assets with hope.
I can see Brannstrom being traded, I don't see them signing him to a two year deal first. I also don't see him fetching a 2nd. He's mis cast in the Sens lineup.
I don't see Staios doing nothing at RD and hoping the draft pick fixes the issue. He made it clear when he pursued Tanev what he's looking for, and he's willing to pay for it.
To answer your question of "In Staios we trust or nah", trust is earned. So far, he's done fine. He's not making rash moves to save his job or win over fans. He's taking his time to analyze what he has and what needs to be done. But until he hires a coach, goes through the draft and off season, he hasn't done enough to earn trust.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Also just so were clear, you brought up Kuznetsov as a comparable. He had 17 total points in 43 games with the Caps this year at a 7.8M cap hit. He has 5 points in his last 11 games with the Canes but even if he continues at this ~0.5ppg pace he will still only finish the season with about 27 points. Which is less than Sharangovich has in just goals right now.
Also what are these "cap issues" you are referring to? The cap for next season is projected to be 87.7M and Calgary's current roster is at 68.8M with only Wolf, Pelletier, Kylington, and Okhotiuk to re-sign. All of which should be relatively cheap. That's ~19.9M cap space.</div></div>
I'm assuming op was referring to Kuzmenko with that "Kuzy" comment, as he was acquired from Van in the Lindholm deal and may, or may not, be viewed as a cap dump.

There is zero incentive for the Jackets to trade one of their highest drafted and highest potential young players for parts less than 3 years after drafting him. They have a prospect pool that is overflowing with depth and very short on high end talent. These Montreal offers are not what they need. If you want to talk Caufield, Suzuki, or Slafkovsky for KJ+ then we can talk. Otherwise, just give up.</div></div>
Habs fans. They know their GM is incapable/unwilling of drafting elite talent, so their only glimmer of hope is mock trade after mock trade for other team's talent. Zegras, KJ, Crosby, etc

He's a steady top 4 RD, a position many teams want to fill, and the cap is going up. I can see him taking a discount to resign in Winnipeg, but if he hits UFA, teams will overpay, they always do.
Edit: If you can imagine any competitive team offering a player that contract, they aren't signing for the same in Ottawa. Team is chaotic. Taxes are terrible. We aren't a desirable destination.

1. Don't need another LD, we'd just keep Chychrun
2. Don't need Guentzle, not the type of player Sens need. He's also a UFA and currently injured for like at least a month.
Makes no sense player wise, let alone also giving up a first
