Initial Creation Date: Aug. 13, 2023

Description
Both teams will decline and fans of both teams will hate it. The players will decline with their NMC’s, but this would be an entertaining as hell hockey trade.

Leafs might accept that for 8.1m Panarin....but I'm sure Panarin's NMC would nix any deal.

Appreciate the comment. Honestly just thought it’d be an interesting deal. Willy can score, would reinforce the right side. Panarin retained helps feed Matthews or Tavares. Imagine being able to rollout Matthews - Marner and Tavares - Panarin on 2 lines. Would be insane.

Leafs would probably accept, Rangers would as long as Nylander would sign a good extension

Oh yeah this was just for fun. Thought it could be a somewhat decent deal for both teams trying to win. Cause a hockey trade is far more likely than just trading an established players for picks or prospects. Just a random deal that popped into my head.

If we could get him to $9.5 mil it’d be perfect imo (I know he likely wants $10-11 mil though). Then buyout Goodrow in the off-season to resign Lindgren, Schneider and Kakko.

I don't think Rangers would do the trade. 9.5m Nylander and 3.5m retention on Panarin in effect makes Nylander a 13m player. Might as well keep 11.64m Panarin.

I know that’s the tough part, we’d have to buyout/move Goodrow for sure the next year. I’m just looking for a major shakeup to be honest with this idea. Unfortunately the cap implications of needing to resign Lindgren, Kakko and Schneider the next year might make this one unrealistic. More than anything, just looking at a hockey trade that could be entertaining. Nylander is more of a shooter than Panarin (why he’d be the perfect setup man for Tavares). Maybe if the retention was slightly lower it could work, but yeah just messing around with an idea I had after dinner.

Yeah, the flat cap is recent years has really affected the cap, especially when players were signed before Covid and the cap was expected to much more than it is now.

Yep, the Panarin deal would be great like many others had the cap gone up in accordance with projections.

Leafs pass, we have enough players who disappear come the playoffs. We don't need to trade our only playoff performer for a non playoff performer.

It’s a tough one for sure. More of a hockey trade with the idea of shaking things up. Plus I’m looking at the upside of Laf having a larger role as part of the deal. He’d be put in a better position to succeed as his 5 on 5 numbers are solid, but he doesn’t get a ton of powerplay time. This move opens up that opportunity.

You never know that 4th could become a Shesty. I definitely wouldn’t say no to it.

Unfortunately Panarin says no. TOR would say yes. NYR would say yes, then NOT resign Willy, just to shed Panarin and his cap

Ah you got what I was going for. It’s too bad, it’d be the perfect way to shed the cap to have room for resigning Lindgren, Kakko, Schneider and pre-planning for Miller, Shesty and Laf. This was a huge long term move. Really happy you got what I was going for with this one.
