2023-24 Out of camp prediction

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trading Barabanov and Ferraro because they likely have the most current moveable trade value on the Sharks. If were going to open things up a bit before the start of the season then they are the most likely to ship out. Some others will probably get traded this year too, but not until later in the season after they've had a chance to bounce back (or not). Not trying to hit the trade value on the head, they are just stand ins.

Hertl/Couture/Sturm is probably set down the middle, and I think either Peterson or Kunin has a shot of being 4C. I see a lot of people putting Granlund as 3C, but I think that's what he played in PIT and didn't really seem to excel, while Sturm has fit really well in that roll for us. Granlund being the playmaker for Hertl and Duclair or Zadina could be a passable first line.

The top 9 wings are going to be interchangeable based on how the players are performing as the year goes on. Its not stellar, but the players who need it should all get a good amount of playing time. Zetterlund, Zadina and Eklund especially will get a chance to show what they can do without overloading the roster with younger players. There are no superstars in the group, but no complete scrubs either really, so there should be plenty of competition with guys fighting for ice-time.

Defense is pretty rough. Thrun and Gawanke are both going to get a fair shot at the roster, and I am more being hopeful that Gawanke becomes a mainstay this year. Bottom pair minutes and 2nd unit PP/PK time will be a good introduction for them if they earn their spots out of camp. If not then Simek or Burroughs can step in.

If Bordeleau, Gushchin and others are ready at some point this year then we should make room for them and not delay their step to the NHL. However, a 2nd AHL year for both of them wouldn't be the worst thing ever.

Yeah its not great. My guess is that it will be some combination of these 6, but not one of them are top pair dmen, and most aren't middle pair either so its a crapshoot. My only hope is that Gawanke shows some of his offensive potential translating to the NHL. He's basically our only offensive D even close to ready.

not sure why SJS trade away a 24yo decent Dman - he would fit into their timeline on rebuild.
Dont see getting a 2nd for him either

I'd keep Mario unless a team wants to overpay for him. We still have to ice a Chinese knock off version of an NHL team.

Curious to see where Labanc lands. No trade value and hasn’t played well enough to earn a top 6 role. Just kinda awkward.

Hopefully they can move D as season goes to create spots for Thrun/Gawanke/etc. but Ferraros contract may detract from any value and his attitude/energy may be useful in the room?

Honestly I disagree. I think they'd be very well structured, just that they wouldn't provide ANY offense. Although it may allow Thrun the freedom to develop offensively.

But overall I don't see a world where Barabanov gets moved until the deadline unless theres a 1st involved. I wouldn't be surprised to see Labanc and and Lindblom get moved or put on waivers, especially if there's some outstanding performances by some younger guys in pre-season. I think Eklund, Gushchin, and Peterson are ready for full time NHL roles

I hope I'm wrong but I just don't see it.

Lol I hope you're right. I want this team to do poorly for one more year.

But sometime the teams that are more "by committee" that don't have any true star talent end up doing fairly well (i.e. Vegas, Seattle, post-JT Islanders, 2021 MTL, 2021-22 Columbus was surprisingly competitive).

They should be gone by the TDL.
