Avs should definitely not do that for Toews. They would be paying for his declining years and need to re-sign Cale, Bo and Mikko within the first four years of that deal. I like Toews a lot but they don't need to spend that kind of money on him, especially at his age and having Byram.

Evolving Hockey has a toews extension at 8x8.05 i think, and they're probably the best at guessing these sort of things.

I like Toews at $7.5 probably. If the Avs are unable to extend mikko and makar bc of a deal like this, I'm not sure it's a failure of the Avs, it's a failure of the NHL's cap situation. They can find their way out of it if that happens - Toews 4 years from now should still be a valuable player.

anything more than 7.5, i get hesitant. you can sign a league minimum player for the difference between 7.5 & 8.25.
