Win/ Loss Rating
Comparison #1 - Even
Detroit gets the better player but the contract is worse. Suter is good defensively but I think Compher is just as comparable with more offence and ability to play up the line up.
Comparison #2 - Win
Detroit gets the better player with more upside.
Comparison #3 - Win
Zadina hasn't done anything yet, wasn't able to stay healthy for us and wanted out. Sprong is a proven scorer with limited ice time, super low risk contract.
Comparison #4 - Win
Detroit gets the player with more upside and proven goal scoring, did cost a first though.
Comparison #5 - Win
Detroit gets a decent veteran top 4 RHD for a fringe one. At the very least the hits and blocks make it a win
Comparison #6 - Win
Big upgrade at D even if Gost does have his warts. He's a better defender and while provide some much needed offence and pick moving from the back end
Comparison #7 - Win
Holl is a big upgrade over Oesterle. Played over 20 minutes a night and should work really good in a third pairing roll.
Comparison #8 - Loss
Ned was sent down after only 8 shaky games. Came back and played well infront of a very bad Detroit team. The upside of Ned along with the age of Reimer make this a loss for me. Reimer did play decent on a very bad Sharks team though.
Comparison #9 - Win
Comparable players, think Lyon has a bit more upside.

In the end, using last year's numbers, we get:
About 150 more man games played (take that how you want but we weren't a healthy team last year)
40 more goals. 24th in the league with 237
109 more assists.
209 more blocks. 11th in the league last season.
217 more hits. 19th in the league last season.

Take all this however you want, in the end we should be tougher to play against and hopefully win more games.

Taxi squad are players I wouldn't mind seeing get PTOs, likely a couple of them go elsewhere

I would like to think 92-96 and just miss the playoffs.

Idk about that much. I think 2024-2025 is when they could squeak in the playoffs. But they def need Raymond, Kasper and Edvinsson to take big steps. Mazur will come as well , Berggren will be a bonafide top 6 guy and Soderblom will be in the lineup

Looks like a number of upgrades to me. Red Wings are being underestimated big time. Pittsburgh, Isles, Boston, Panthers, Lightning, Leafs, Rangers, Caps, Ottawa and Buffalo aren't perfect hockey teams.

I think so too. They should be a lot better defensively and with that also not spending as much time in their own zone. Pretty decent defively down the middle also. Gonna be tough to play against.

Compher is a gigantic upgrade to suter. Yeah I hate the contract too but he's a better player and I don't think it's close.

It seemed like special teams killed Detroit last season. Especially the PK. Cat and Ghost should boost the PP. Compher and (dare I say it?) Holl should improve the PK. Petry is a good veteran guy to have around. Lots of experience.

Add on: There's this other website I go on and theres this one Leafs fan who loves making fun of Detroit's D. Especially Holl.

So each time he ridicules them, he always lists the Red Wings D and how awful they are.

But he never ever lists Seider. As if he's not part of the team. I just think it's hilarious. 🤣

Is Toronto's D really any better than Detroit's D? Make sure you include Seider now! Yes, he IS a part of it! He even has a Red Wings uniform! Really! He does! 🤭

But most don't notice the true beauty of this roster. Detroit isn't going to the playoffs and Yzerman will probably keep most of the prospects in GR so they can be successful as a team and maybe win the Calder Cup. Which is exactly what he said he wanted to do. Now with a defense as old as Detroit's will be this season with the exception of Seider won't win us a bunch of games but they might lose some games for us. You don't really think guys like Chiarot, Holl, Maatta, Fabbri, Fischer, Kostin and Petry are Detroit's future? They are little more than place holders and safety nets. You can probably add Veleno, Sprong and either Copp or Compher to that list as well. It's especially obvious with the defense Edvinsson got injured and Maatta was resigned, ASP won't be ready for a few seasons so he signed Holl for 3 years and we will probably see Wallinder making the jump in the final season of Chiarot's contract. Everyone with a voice is saying Yzerman is over rated but he's still several moves ahead of the people saying he is over rated.

This isn't even half of the finished product. There will be so much cap room and flexibility next year, even after Raymond and Seider are signed.

They need the prospects to develop, that's it. If Edvinsson, Wallinder, ASP, Kasper and Danielson develop into legitimate NHLers, watch out.

I don't expect playoffs but over 90 points. Playoffs will likely be right around 100 this year since Boston probably doesn't hog all the points.

Yes but you have to take baby steps a lot of people on this site are convinced Chiarot and Holl were signed to be part of the finished product when they really are little more than place holders. Maybe they are just trying to justify their claims of Yzerman being overrated. Either way it's best to go slow so you don't lose any of them along the way!

Boston isn't getting 130+ points this year so should be a few more to spare. I'm excited about this team, it's not sexy but it's good.

I don't disagree, the contract is why I consider it an even trade.

Successful teams build in stages. Yzerman did the same thing in Tampa. This is nowhere near a finished product. Casual, uninformed fans who hate Yzerman have created this false narrative that he's blown the re-build.

Far from it. He's building for 3-4 years from now. But that doesn't satisfy the "Instant gratification" folks. Need Cup now! Give me Cup now! 🤭

I'm sure Yzerman expected it to go a little faster than it has but awful lottery luck has slowed things down a bit. Detroit stretching out that playoff appearance streak and the 25yrs of buying at the TDL made sure the prospect pipeline was just about bone dry. You also have Kenny Holland's inability to draft in the 1st round. Larkin has been the best player by far that Holland has drafted in the 1st round and the jury is still out on Rasmussen god I hope he has a breakout season. I guess you could add Veleno to the jury is still out list but honestly I have no idea why we have dragged it out for so long. That leaves Kronwall as the only other player drafted in the 1st worthy of being drafted in the 1st round. So it has taken longer than anyone thought it would but Yzerman has stayed the course and stuck to his original plan. Instead of trying to buy his way out of the rebuild which hardly ever works and just makes it seem like the rebuild is never ending.
