Description
I think their top 9 is pretty set and unless they move Wennberg (who is on an expiring contract), I don't see Wright starting the season with the Kraken unless there are injuries. The loss of Sprong and Geekie are going to hurt. Yamamoto could have the potential to have a season like Sprong. They don't really have an elite producer, but they could roll for lines and all 4 lines have at least one player that could score 20 goals and that can be hard to stop. There is one notable change on the blueline. Carson Soucy is gone and Brian Dumoulin has signed a 2 year deal. Dumoulin has been bad for the past 2 seasons, but he shouldn't be playing Top 4 minutes and ex-Penguins players tend to play better with their new team than how they played with the Penguins. Goaltending will be interesting to watch. Grubauer had another rough regular season, but he looked solid in the playoffs particularly against Colorado, some bad games against Dallas brought down his overall numbers in the playoffs. Daccord looks to be the backup. I do think the Kraken will finish as the #1 WC again. Look who they'll likely compete with for a playoff spot. Nashville? St Louis? Maybe even LA? The Kraken should finish ahead of Nashville and St Louis. Even if LA finishes ahead of Seattle they will very likely make the playoffs since there is a big separation between Dallas/Colorado (maybe the Wild to a lesser extent) and the rest of the Central teams.

I think the Kraken will finish in a similar spot as they did last season, as a wild card team who could finish higher if everything goes right, or lower if everything goes wrong. The core of the roster from last year remains intact, with much of the player movement coming around the margins. If anything, their floor might be lowered some by the departures of depth contributors and banking on bounce-back candidates (Yamamoto, Dumoulin) and prospects (Wright, Kartye) to replace them, but the ceiling of this team might be raised somewhat due to those same factors. I actually think Wright stands a decent chance to begin the season on the NHL roster and will get every chance to beat out Bellemare for that last center spot. The Kraken have balanced enough forward lines where he would get decent minutes even in a 4C role.
