Jets if buying at TDL

Created by: RationalHockeyFan
Team: 2023-24 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 22, 2023
Published: Aug. 22, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Based off CF's current estimate of $8,275,340 in cap space at the deadline.

This trade insulates the Jets' potentially fragile 2C, assuming injuries and/or Vilardi/Perfetti being unable to get 'er done this year. It also adds necessary depth to the RD spots. TBH I'm most concerned about the 2C spot, RD depth can come from Chisholm/waivers/other trades.

LMK what alterations y'all would make and/or what you think could be going the other way for Backlund and Tanev.
Trades
1.
WPG
  1. Backlund, Mikael
  2. Tanev, Christopher ($2,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Both players likely have to waive. But if Calgary isn't in the hunt and they don't want to resign, they would be valuable additions to the Jets roster.
CGY
  1. Chibrikov, Nikita
  2. 2024 1st round pick (WPG)
  3. 2024 4th round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
I'm definitely off on the return. We'll know what a more realistic one is by TDL anyway.
2.
WPG
  1. Barron, Justin
  2. Kovacevic, Johnathan
Additional Details:
Alternative choices for RD depth instead of Tanev. Only one is really necessary, I prefer Tanev so that Chisholm can be in the lineup full-time in 24/25.
MTL
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
It feels wrong to dangle the 2nd rounder in front of MTL fans like this, but a trade between WPG and MTL this year would likely include it.

Barron is better than Nils Lundkvist. Remind me what he was traded for again?

We drafted 20 players in the last 2 draft and we have 21 picks in the next 2 drafts. What you offer nonthless the asking is mostly irrelevant, espicially for weakening the RD depth chart, wich is our worst position.

Yes Barron or Kovacevich value isnt high, but that's exactly why developing them into full time NHLer is much smarter than getting low picks right now. Our deep prospects pool should only be used for acquiring top players when ready to compete again.

Darn, I suppose the Jets will have to find other RD depth. It's a shame, I always liked Kovacevic.

You may have Kovacevic for the 2nd but you won’t be getting Barron for it. You definitely won’t be getting both for that pick.
