Hayes at little under $4M was worth a 6th.

Why is he worth 1st+ at little under $2M?

You do make a good point. I’ll change the trade a little bit

Value wise sure, but now I have to question why would STL do that? Don't they have enough 2nd pair LHDs already?

Can never have enough right?? He’s on a one year deal anyways so they can just trade him at the TDL for a second or whatever

Maybe. Just think they'd benefit from having Hayes more since he actually fills a need for them.

I doubt they are going to start the season with the assumption that they're selling later down the line, they want to upgrade from last year.

That is a good point. I just don’t see St.Louis making the playoffs, so I won’t wouldn’t be surprised if they sold some pieces

That'll clear up around January-February time. Personally I think they've got a chance, I'd argue aside from ARI and DAL every team in Central is worse now than last year.

That is a good point. It could be anyone’s game in the central. If Boston really wanted him, I’m sure they would gladly overpay for Hayes to continue being good. If you were St.Louis, would you accept a 1st for Hayes?? Sure they need him but that’s a good offer. I don’t k wk just a thought

This trade makes no sense
Why are the blues trading Scotty p and Rosen too

Not to mention they just got Hayes so they won’t trade him

Absolutely I would - what a great asset management would that be from STL GM, turning a 6th into a 1st.

Problem is though that BOS is not in position to move a first for a center like that, they already are missing their 2024 one after trading it for Bertuzzi, and the 2025 pick is also locked as conditional one on that trade. 2026 1st could be in play, but I'd be hesitant to move that quickly too, given Bruins prospect pool is pretty dreadful right now.

Bergeron and Krejci retiring drove them to a bit of a corner...

Hey it’s Boston. Sure their prospect pool is pretty bad, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Sweeney moved a first for a centre to continue being competitive.

The Bs could certainly acquire Hayes, but the value here is waaaay off with all the retention and Grz wouldn't be of interest anyway. Frankly, I don't think they have the trade capital to swing it with retention and I highly doubt the Blues just hand you Perunovich.

Perhaps.

My suggestion would be pulling a 2015 again. One year retool to stockpile on things.

That core is not good enough and I think they know it too. I would take the pending UFAs they have and turn them into prospect/draft capital later down the line and hope they fall into the bottom-10 - that way they can keep their 2024 1st and get a good prospect.

After that, full send on the UFA market to bring in a proper 1C for 2024-25, whether it's Lindholm, Scheifele, Stamkos...there's plenty of better options in there than there is now, and now that their core is renewing anyway with Bergeron/Krejci retiring they got time to build again.

Selling DeBrusk, Ullmark, Grzelcyk for draft capital could end up being extremely valuable for them, as long as they don't f*ck up with the drafting again, similar to how they did in 2015.

That’s a great plan. Suck for this year and then become competitive again in 24-25

Definitely pass. Hayes is not a top line center and may not even be a 2nd liner soon.
