Description

Seeing all these deals because people have it stuck in their head that a roster should be 12 forwards and 6D is getting old. Provided everyone is healthy, the Leafs will be running with an 11-7 set up, and here is why it will work.

1. We can all assume that Matthews line will see 20 minutes a night, based on ice time last year. Further I don't think is is a stretch to say Bertuzzi or Domi can.play those minutes.

2. The second line will see it's 18-19 minutes a night, I mean that has been its deployment for a couple years now.

3. Quietly, Kämpf played 15 minutes a night last year. Järnkrok wasn't far behind, and in the past has played those 15 minutes a night.... and to develop Knies, he need those minutes as well.....

This leaves a whopping 7 minutes to use Reaves and Lafferty (who can play more as well).

The 4th line "blender" I would suggest sees almost every forward seeing time there except Nylander (the game style simply doesn't fit)..... and is it beyond the realm of possibility that we see Reilly or Klingberg see a 30 second shift at forward?

Even with the nuances of the PP and PK, the icetimes will not increase to a point of burn out.

The taxi squad is the list of players that would be called up in case of injury...... in no particular order

Is this ideal no. Is it terrible? No. It is a system that is manageable given this line up, so please..... stop with the trades!

1. Agreed with the above posts. This site is fun because you get to suggest trades.

2. Your fourth line blender here is going to be super tough because of the Ryan Reaves factor. This team is generally built on speed and he is going to struggle to find chemistry with Lafferty and whoever rotates through that line. Reaves has a significantly lower average TOI than anyone else on this roster and that's the biggest reason why I don't think this 11 and 7 is sustainable with the roster above. If you can get Reaves off the books (and I think you can) to replace him with a McMann or other guy like that, I think it's way more possible.

I'll ignore the threats... but your plan is flawed & unrealistic, unless it's only for a week. I'm the biggest Reaves supporter, he instantly transformed my NYR, same in MIN, VGK... But mostly off ice lol. There are no more fights & he cannot keep up to other nhlers. 3 mins a game & not every game is the most you'll want to watch. 1 of the 4 cap horsemen have to go, for a deeper team like everybody's been saying for the last half decade, no?? Even though it's bad timing for a Willy trade

I have fun with that. This idea of making deals to create a more traditional roster died a few weeks ago.

I moved onto 2024-25 where one can look at real possibilities.

As for Reaves..... gotta be honest. Wasn't a fan of the signing. I get what he can do for the locker room, but the money and term is nuts. But it does male for the 4th line blender. If the shifts are kept to 30-45 seconds, I am not overly concerned about Reaves.

What this will do is force Keefe to start thinking outside the box - which is something I am.not sure he can do (see Performance, Playoffs).

It may work, it may not.... but the fact is this is what is about to happen barring a long term injury at camp.

Barring injuries, I think it is fairly obvious this is how it goes.

An injury to anyone making north of $2 million frees up space for two call ups. I can do math. Amd sufficed to say, at that point, a more traditional line up is deployed.

But the right and and right now? Yeah. This is how the season rolls. Expecting something different is completely obtuse imo....

I doubt Leafs go 11-7

There is no reason for it and it rarely works

Timmins is expendable and overpriced for a #7 on this team

12-6 is the logical choice as even if a Dman gets hurt they got Lagesson, Benoit, and Lajoie to be the third pair until said player returns.

As for Willy idk he is stubborn and if we look there is a team in FA who is competitive and set to have a lot of cap VGK

They may go sure here's 10m come play for us. I say trade him in a sign and trade rather than loose him for nothing
