Interesting. My comments from the last one apply to the Arizona part and Hanifin. And you've made the pick a little better too.

As the Flames, I would take this eagerly actually. As the Senators, I'm not sure they're ready to lose Pinto for Backlund who is much older. That said, Backlund could be a great fit there for a few years.

Credit to MoxNix for the original ARI-CGY deal. They mentioned the possibility of trying to include Pinto so this is my attempted rework.

The OTT-CGY portion of the trade is based on budgeteam's OTT-PHI proposal.

The Sen's problem is still cap space. Sending Forsberg to LTIR helps a lot, but still not enough to resign Sokolov. The roster moves required to dress a full lineup eat into the savings pretty quickly.

Potential for a future deal unloading Joseph/Kubalik would make sense, with a cheap vet coming back with enough cap space to sign Sokolov and still have 13 NHL forwards.

Didn't include them in this one though as didn't think either player makes much sense for CGY.

CGY - turns older UFA assets into younger NHL ready players
ARI - starts the process of weaponising their stockpile of draft picks as they start to look to contend
OTT - sacrifices some promising younger players for veteran help in a playoff push. Would have their top 3 centres as Stützle-Norris-Backlund.

AZ will do - hate to give up durzi but for hanafin (a 2nd no big deal when have so many) absolutely, only caveat is hanafin has to be resigned.

Not bad, I don't like taking on Brannstrom but I'd do this anyhow.

The big question is would Ottawa do it? They could really use a center like Backlund (a defensively responsible center who is NOT injury prone) but he's getting up there in age and a pending UFA too.

Forsberg isn’t going to LTIR, he has been healthy for months.

There is not a chance that Ottawa would give up Pinto for Backlund. Sens cupboard isn’t super deep, they’re not trading a promising young player for an older player approaching UFA.
