I think you'll get some interesting reactions to this trade (one that is more likely to happen closer to the deadline if the Sharks' tank has sucked any desire of staying out of Hertl). I do think Boston is one of the few teams he'd waive for.

Boston fans will probably say overpay. They won't like the term on Hertl's contract. Other Boston fans might favor a rebuild and this just prolongs the inevitable.

Sharks fans might not like the lack of any good prospects, but with Boston there's not much to work with. Honestly, this deal is great for freeing up cap space as all contracts are expiring or flippable. The 2025 1st is great for us if Boston struggles to make the playoffs.

You can have MacDonald for free. Don't pay a 4th for him.

Not sure why Boston even considers this unless they are in full blown panic mode…they are not.

Last year Hertl .79 ppg 79 games 21g 63pts

Debrusk .78 ppg. 64 games 27g 50pts. Last 82 games 37g 66pts.

Hertl’s contract is likely not going to age well. He’s had 1 season over 65 points, 5 years ago.

Quite frankly i would not trade Debrusk 1 for 1 unless I knew Debrusk was not going to re-sign.

It’s purely a panic move to fill a top 6 center spot without giving what they have a chance to succeed or fail.

On the other hand, Hertl has had very little scoring support over the last couple of years. The Sharks 100% say yes to that trade on paper, but trading a fan favorite might have some financial repercussions. Also, Hertl has a full NMC and might not waive to go to Boston.

I dont know if the sharks say yes to this. They felt meier didn't fit their time line and I dont think they could get debrusk to resign. We dont need cap space, and we do want futures. Im not saying the value is wrong in either directions I just dont think the teams are a good fit

That is mostly irrelevant and not really true, and not what I said.

SJ had more 60+ point players than Boston did. Defense was where they really excelled.

I said i would not trade Debrusk 1 for 1. Has nothing to do with who is better. It has to do with value going forward.

Tough one as Hertl is a great stabilizing player for the young kids in San Jose's rebuild. Return seems reasonable. But in reality, shouldn't Boston try to refresh/rebuild over next two years to salvage the back half of pastrnaks contract?
