I like this deal, considering it would come with an extension. However, I wonder where Timmons fits into the logjam on D that already exists.

Timmins would just be for depth. He would fit in the 6th-8th range on D.

He would be another offensive option if Deangelo and/or Burns got hurt.

No I get that, just not sure the Canes offload a dman and get one back. They also have no AHL affiliate this season, so depth is limited.

No AHL affiliate? That's very strange. Are they loaning guys to other teams?

I would gladly keep Timmins on the Leafs and get Pesce as well. :P

Yeah the plan is still unclear, but they had been with the Chicago Wolves for the past couple of season. Chicago wants to focus on winning AHL Calder Cups every year by signing veterans and they don't want to be at the whim of an NHL squad, so they did not renew with Carolina. I think they'll be loaning players to other AHL squads and probably have to carry 3 goalies and the full 23 man roster most is not the whole season. It'll be interesting.

And I'll take Nylander too, thank you!

Thanks for the info!

And yes I like this type of trade for both teams. Leafs only do it if they can get Kane as well or if they get a Jarvis out of Carolina (which is highly unlikely)

It is - Jarvy is very much a non starter. If they wouldnt include him for Meier, I don't they would for Willy

Yes in that case, Lily would need to be going back to Carolina as well AND Carolina would need to highly value Lily.

Pesce + Jarvis for Nylander + Lily

I think the type of proposal I made in this AGM is more realistic though.

I assume both teams just hold onto what they have for now and that they don't make this trade. But I can see it benefiting both sides.

Yeah, I don't think a deal is in the works between these two teams

We get Kane here also.

So we lose Nylander + Timmins but gain Kane + Pesce + 1st + 2nd and cap space.

Of course Nylander is better than current version of Kane. But this upgrades the Leafs D core quite a bit and helps balance out their roster.

Our defence is fine. I agree.

But it could and should be a bit better if we want to push for a cup.

Every analyst agrees. Even Treliving agrees.

The defence as constructed here is better than what we have now, but it is missing at least one more physical guy. But that's what the deadline is for.

I agree
But
Dubas did add a ton at every deadline since Matthews was drafted. Feel like I’d rather get the blockbusters done sooner than later.

Yes I would make the trade I made in this AGM today.

With this trade we would have 10 picks in next years draft (2 being 1sts). So it would also allow us to be quite aggressive at the deadline as well.

Pretty sure this trade doesn’t get considered without a guarantee that Nylander is signing a long term deal at a hell of a lower price than what he is demanding. Frankly, Canes still decline, since the distance between Nylander and Pesce is not a 1st and 2nd.

No, Canes pass. WAY too much or Nylander, maybe if you drop the 2nd and make Timmins Lilly. Just not enough coming back for Carolina to justify moving that kind of package

We could pick up tanev at the trade deadline he’s been a top 3 defensive defender for the last 3 years and he wouldn’t cost us nylander
