No he's being tried at center for the first time since in nearly 5 years. That doesn't make him a center all of a sudden.

He's also scored 40 goals once in his career, he's not at all a consistent 40 goal scorer. He also did that playing with a far more competent team.

Sure, but Nylander will be 30 before Anaheim even sniffs the playoffs, Yes the ducks have a lot of good young defense prospects but defense generally take until age 23 to become NHL players and 25 to hit their prime. Drysdale is the oldest of their prospects and he's only 21.

So in your scenario here, Toronto gives up ~15-20 points of production (if Z can do 65 on a talent light Ducks roster, 80+ should be easily achievable on the leafs) and moves back ~10 spots in the draft. In exchange, they get 3 mil in cap space this year, 8 additional years of cost certainty with a player who more than likely will be as good as Nylander, and even gets a 3rd to boot.

So Anaheim gets to risk loosing Nylander, to move up 10 spots in the draft, AND loose Zegras, AND give up a third pick. It's not happening.
