Everyone agreed that Dobson is off limits, so here is try number 2

Looks to me like you're overvaluing Olofsson and maybe Jokiharju too. They'll both have more value as deadline rentals with 50% retention but IMO aren't worth all that much right now especially not Olofsson.

Myself, while moving JGP would be nice I'd keep Mayfield and Wahlstrom if that's all I get offered in return. However I'd probably be ok with JGP and the 2nd for Jokiharju.

Yeah I thought the retention might be enough. Getting out of JGP to get Olofsson was the primary focus. But then you need to off at the 3 years v. 1 year of JGP v. Olofsson. Plus that trade doesn't fix the NYI cap situation so I thought about a D swap to even things out... plus Wahlstrom seems like he needs a change of scenery

Well, since Mayfield is going to be 37 years old when his contract is up, and he's making near $3.5m per year, as a third pairing guy that age, I'm not convinced the Sabres would want him. It's a lot of years to commit to. Furthermore, Pageau at near $5m per year is too much for the Sabres to spend on their 3rd line center, in my opinion, unless it's a younger one who is emerging.. They have Mittelstadt, Dahlin, Power and Luukkonen all needing new contracts, which will take up a hefty chunk of cap space, and I do think they should try and include Mittelstadt in the long-term plan. I'd pay him $5m per season before Pageau, I'm buying high on last year's performance. Especially with Quinn out to start, he could be allocated some extra ice time depending on game situations.

Anyway, too much money I think in those two guys Pageau and Mayfield to be worth it with all of the raises they have to give not just for next season but the next few after too to some others.

Yeah....I included Mayfield to get NYI under the cap, and thought including Wahlstrom would help balance the value... think I missed the mark again. Thanks for the thoughts!

I still think this is an overpay. Olafsson 25% retained for JGP and Wahlstrom is a bit of an overpay, but get's NYI out from under 2 additional years of JGP, and they probably can't afford to qualify Wahlstom anyways
