You used to be able to…in a way. It would be called ‘executive compensation’ for signing a coach or GM under contract. We technically ‘traded’ Pete Deboer to the Sharks (and got the Reilly Walsh pick) even though we had already fired him.

In 2015, Lou Lamoriello was still President and he hired Ray Shero to be GM. He then took the job in Toronto, so he traded a 3rd rounder for himself. That pick we used to acquire Marcus Johansson (which turned into Okhotiuk pick, which turned into Timo Meier).

They ended it in 2016 though (even though our picks were grandfathered in)

After posting this I went and did some recon-
Easily I came up with Sullivan from Pitt with former Dev Jay Leach as his assistant.
Lots of connections, Mass guy like Fitz, played together, Leach is looking too.

Scratching a player for first time a couple days before deadline usually means (1) you are getting traded; (2) you want people to think you are getting traded; (3) you have played worse than the alternative.

His ice time is down 3 minutes a night over the last 10 games vs his 1st 30. I wouldn't stress about it

Luke is on the 3rd pairing, Holtz on the 4th line. Don't stress about it. We're not moving Nemec. And if we were, NJD frankly wouldn't be holding him out. Nemec isn't an asset that even meaningfully loses value if he gets injured.
