Two young players get a fresh start

Created by: hairyberry
Team: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 27, 2023
Published: Sep. 27, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Could this make sense as the base of a trade? Seems like Vancouver is overloaded with mid-tier wingers and Hoglander is always the odd man out. Could see him getting traded if that doesn't change this season. Similar situation for Heinola out in Winnipeg.

Issue is jets have a lot of middle 6 wingers. Heinola is waivers exempt so they likely keep him and send him down to the AHL. Could see him included in a 55/37 deal later in the year.

Canucks already have a lot of LHDs fighting for the 3rd pair spot (Hirose, Wolanin, Irwin, Brisebois, Rathbone). I doubt they’d want Heinola right now

Wolanin had an elite season in the AHL last year and played decently in a small cameo last season. Irwin is an okay veteran brought in. Hirose is the main one though, he looked really solid in his limited game time last season. It doesn’t really make sense to add another LHD when we already have a lot of options there. I’d also rather have Hoglander straight up over Heinola
