Ok I see your point but the fact that pinto is probably looking at a contract that is worth less than Joseph is a hilarious joke
Why? Pinto is 22 y/o and has 1 NHL season, he's just coming out of his ELC so it's pretty standard that he doesn't make his potential maximum salary yet. Joseph signed a 2 years bridge out of his ELC, with a $737,500 cap hit...

And Schmidt did nothing to earn his $6M when he got his deal also lol
But I see what you're saying on the draft pick added to Joseph.
Yeah but when the deal was signed, Schmidt was coming out of a season where he had 36 pts in 76 games playing 22:14 per game in all situations. He was still good in the first 2 seasons after the signing but then his play declined, which was not expected as he was still in his 20's. IIRC, injuries derailed him (which is often the case in a sport like hockey)

Then I guess Joseph being so good, Pinto doesn't need to be signed
What kind of logic is that? There's 20-23 spots on a hockey team, you need as many good players as possible. What is important is to have QUALITY players vs the roles they play. If Joseph and Pinto were asked to be Top-6 forwards now, it wouldn't be ideal but they're not.
