Philly wants a 1st round pick to take on Joseph, And there's no way that Boucher and Joseph return a 2nd round pick especially a high 2nd rounder.

It's 2 pre-season games but Joseph has made it abundantly clear that paying anything to move him would be an instant mistake

Taking on Joseph at $3M deserves a first round sweetner and I would give it in a heartbeat no idea why he has a $2.9M deal

Also just came across Nate Schmidt who makes $5.9M signed by Vegas in 2019 that's another most terrible contracts ever list just a sidebar comment

There's a lot of dumb signings in the NHL capologist and advanced stats guys need to take a year or 2 off

Defensive forwards who are good defensively, elite on the PK and who provide about 30 ES pts per 82 games with 10-12 minutes of ice-time with other bottom-6 forwards should make how much do you think?

https://www.capfriendly.com/browse/active/2024/caphit/all/forwards?salary-structure=one-way&contract=standard&stats-season=2023&limits=age-26-32&pg=3

Joseph is actually better than many of the 25-30 y/o forwards who make 2.5 to 4.5 AAV

Nate Schmidt contract was signed in 2018... a lot has changed since.

It's not the "capologists" or anything who need a year off, it's you who need to make more empirical reasearch

Why is philly asking for a first round pick to take him on they should be jumping at the opportunity to get him if he is better than all those guys

Nate Schmidt at $6M is not even a conversation worth having.

You brought up Nate Schmidt as it was a terrible contract (true), but he was signed 5 years ago but it's simply a contract that didn't age well.

And the Flyers are asking for a big compensation to help Ottawa to create enough cap space to sign Pinto because they don't want to help them for free. It's related to the current market which is a big cap crunch. They are rebuilding and don't need Joseph, like all the teams who could fit him on the cap, which is why they don't want to do it for free. Many teams competing would trade for him IF they had cap space because they want to win and Joseph can actually help them (elite PK, great ES defense, decent offense from bottom-6) but most have their own cap problems.

The market will likely change in the next few weeks when injuries start to pile up and when teams will decide that most of their "experiments" are not going to work out.

Ok I see your point but the fact that pinto is probably looking at a contract that is worth less than Joseph is a hilarious joke

And Schmidt did nothing to earn his $6M when he got his deal also lol

But I see what you're saying on the draft pick added to Joseph.

Then I guess Joseph being so good, Pinto doesn't need to be signed

Why? Pinto is 22 y/o and has 1 NHL season, he's just coming out of his ELC so it's pretty standard that he doesn't make his potential maximum salary yet. Joseph signed a 2 years bridge out of his ELC, with a $737,500 cap hit...

Yeah but when the deal was signed, Schmidt was coming out of a season where he had 36 pts in 76 games playing 22:14 per game in all situations. He was still good in the first 2 seasons after the signing but then his play declined, which was not expected as he was still in his 20's. IIRC, injuries derailed him (which is often the case in a sport like hockey)

What kind of logic is that? There's 20-23 spots on a hockey team, you need as many good players as possible. What is important is to have QUALITY players vs the roles they play. If Joseph and Pinto were asked to be Top-6 forwards now, it wouldn't be ideal but they're not.

Because there's something called the salary cap... And right now, Ottawa doesn't have enough space to sign Pinto... The options are (and you won't be getting optimal value either): Stuzle, Norris, Tkachuk, Chabot, Batherson, Kubalik, Joseph, Chabot, Chychrun, Zub, Korpisalo, Forsberg... And every other team in the league knows you don't have space either... So nobody will give up value to help you out

Really?

I think everyone is aware of that lol... and obviously, Sens are evaluating all their options before doing anything and also stated as such before training camp. Thinking that paying something like a 1st to move Joseph is the ONLY option they have shows a really big lack of understanding.
