Brannstrom would not have a future on the Flyers based on what they have and what they want to build. I can't imagine they'd give up an asset they should be able to get a 3rd or 4th rounder for at the deadline and lose the opportunity to get something of actual value from Ottawa to help them with their cap issues

Respectfully, I think you're considerably overvaluing Brannstrom. He'd be the 3rd most valuable sub-6 foot tall lefty on the Flyers blue line, and hasn't really shown to be any better than a bottom-pairing guy at 24 years old.

If he we're really worth "at least a 2nd if not more" Ottawa would just trade him for a 2nd and be done with their issues.

Csick, find another team, trade him for a good forward prospect (Ostapchuk/Jarventie level) and maybe a low salary dump that we could waive and send to the AHL.

He'd literally be their 3rd best D-man. If someone GIVE IT to you (like in this ACGM), you take him, feed him TOI and PP time, then sell it down the road to make a profit...

Who are you talking about exactly?

And lol, Brannstrom turned 24 this month, he was 23 y/o last season...

Finally, it's not because it has not happened YET, that it CAN"T happen... As of now, Sens are cap compliant and are evaluating every option with the new staff they have (new ownership)

The captain missed the whole training camp and the first 3 games 2 years ago. It's possible that it also happens with Pinto.

Even if this were immediately true, that means nothing on the Flyers. The absolute best "sell him down the road to make a profit" case scenario would be the Flyers getting rid of Seeler who they could sell for a 3rd or a 4th, take away ice time from a guy like Mark Staal who they could probably sell for roughly a 4th at the TDL, Brannstrom having an improved season, then maybe selling him for like a 2nd and a 3rd (cause he's not getting PP1 time over York and I'm not sold he'd put up good defensive results on the Flyers). That's a lot of work for not a lot of results, especially when the the Flyers initial asks from the Senators to alleviate their cap issues has been *much* higher

-Who are you talking about exactly?

Cam York is already better than Brannstrom and at this point I think Emil Andrae is on a more impressive trajectory than Brannstrom as well.

That's how aging works

That's fair enough. The Sens are in a unique situation with the game of musical chairs happening in the front office this close to the season, which makes making moves difficult. I still think if someone was willing to pay a 2nd round pick for Brannstrom that the Sens would've been over that like white on rice if that were an actual option for them.

A rebuilding team would jump on this like white on rice as you said. A guy who had a really steep progress in his 23 y/o season, already 190 NHL games, produced 24 pts per 82 games since he turned 21 y/o and has some of the best advanced metrics of any non-top-4 guy in the league... Eye test also reveals that the guy is pretty good at hockey and it's not really about the flashy plays, just a lot of smart plays during a game.

If you play him on your 2nd pairing and give him some PP time and then puts 30+ pts while playing his excellent transition game, he'd be worth considerably more than anything you could get from Seeler, Staal and then some.

Yes York was among the 2 guy I had, the other was Sanheim... Emil Andrae is a good prospect and the write up on Dobber is exactly Brannstrom's game... But he has 0 NHL games played and will be 22 y/o during the season. You don't miss the opportunity of getting a valuable young asset because of it, particularly when the price is only a 30 y/o player that you might get or not a 3rd or 4th rounder for at the deadline

Yeah but you said "and hasn't really shown to be any better than a bottom-pairing guy at 24 years old." How could anyone show anything before it actually happens (playing his 24 y/o season)? Your sentence would only work AFTER this season. And he kinda "broke out" last year but at the same time was stuck behind Chabot and Sanderson so a little bit hard to be more than a 3rd pairing D-man...

That it is done already or not means absolutely nothing. Sens said before the camp that they would evaluate all their options before making a move. We'll have a better idea within the next 10-11 days
