I feel like that is a super pricey dump?? I am unfamiliar with Zubs game but he would be our longest tenured Dman - so I think it would cost a lot

Zub is a solid upgrade to Benning. Cap casualty to Ottawa. SJ could get him on discount.

I thought Zub was the best defensive 1RD in the league Ottawa fans?

I know the handle says sens fan but we can’t claim anything from Toronto.

There would be a million other moves made before one like this would come to fruition. Zub’s not moving and definitely not for a cap dump.

This "dump" term and concept is getting to a ridiculous level of misunderstanding on CF lol

Imagine how much you'd ask for the Oilers to DUMP McDavid on the Sharks

Does it mean anything because he is proposed in an ACGM?

I haven't seen a single Sens fan call him "the best defensive 1RD in the league" but yes, he is one of the good Top-4 defensive D-men

I meant more because there is no incentive for the sharks to take him - and he would have like the 3rd longest contract on our team and one of the bigger cap hits at a time when we are trying to turn as many people over as possible. AND the sharks really only have defensive defensemen so its not like his filling a need for us either. Also this is literally a dump because you have to pay to get him out of the team (everyone knows Ottawas cap mismanagement & their desire to sign pinto and that will make costs go up for them). You can use the term cap casualty but they are very similar. But you in true Canadian fan fashion sure are hyperbolic

The league and the planet doesn't revolve around the Sharks, once you'll realize that, your perspective and understanding will evolve. They are just 1 out of 32 teams.

It's about the MARKET, supply and demand. If Zub was available, teams would line up to acquire him and would do other moves to be able to fit him. Plus, injuries will start to pile up, players will go on LTIR and it change the market landscape.

The term/concept of "cap dump" is just not understood by hockey fans in general

For example, Nikita Zaitsev was a cap dump, Reilly Smith wasn't

Yes but when you are trading with the sharks I would assume their needs change how much they value any given player. If you were trading with someone that badly needed Zub or if you were a team that wasn't extremely cash strapped that changes the value. Under the premise that you try to send Zub to the sharks (a team where he has little value combined with the knowledge that Ottawa badly needs this move to happen) means that it has the potential to be an expensive dump for Ottawa. If you're executive level knowledge of hockey diction does not like the use of the word dump in that context (dumping one player to sign another) then perhaps you can call it a cap casualty (like Smith). The sharks certainly would not pay for Zub at this stage in their rebuild.

OP most likely took San Jose randomly. He was most likely looking for a cheaper but still efficient D-man, thought of Benning.

And Ottawa doesn't need this move BADLY to happen. They are cap compliant at the moment, they can start the season, but they can't sign Pinto. However, he's not as needed as he'd like to think. Claude Giroux could play Center but Ridly Greig and Roby Jarventie are both high end prospects and both are looking really good in training camp.

All that said, there's no chance that Zub ends up as a cap dump, or even a cap casualty, he still returns positive asset(s). Since the Sharks are not there in their rebuild, then it's most likely another team that would outbid them for his services.

Anyway, moot talk as it's not happening
