The team is still strong, I'd just prefer Pinto signed for C depth. A lot of people are saying Joseph is a great PK guy, which is true, but so is Stu, Norris, Pinto, Kastelic, Kelly and Giroux. I believe Joseph is the odd man out.
Joseph is not only "great" on the PK, he is Elite. See the 98% in blue under "PK"? This is the percentile Joseph is at. It means that he has better results than 98% of PK forwards over the last 3 years (I only have 2019-2022)
Stutzle, Norris and Giroux can be very good at it, sure, but I'd rather have them spend most of their TOI at ES and PP
Kelly is actually pretty decent at it (although a lot of his PK TOI was with Joseph, which might have helped his numbers) but he shouldn't be a regular on the team. He will most likely be in the AHL
Kastelic and Pinto were pure rookies last season, their metrics were very far from being as efficient as Joseph. Maybe they'll get there but it'd be a really big BLOW to not have Joseph on the PK.
That said, he's also quite good defensively at ES, great on the forecheck with his top speed.
Even his offense is underrated. Even if he had a down year last season, among the 16 Sens forwards who played at least 120 mins at ES, he ranked 8th in xGF/60 (just behind DeBrincat) and 7th in GF/60 (just in front of DeBrincat), he did this while playing with bad players in general. In terms of individual stats, he was 13th but very similar production to Brassard, Motte and Kastelic. So it means, that the lines he played on didn't convert on enough of their chances (expected goals vs goals)
I have analyzed a lot of metrics and it would be a mistake to pay ANYTHING to move Mathieu Joseph.

Best way to have avoided this is not bring back Kubalik back in the deal and that is pintos money.
Most likely just Dorion's pride that got in the way. Wanted to "save face" as much as possible with the DeBrincat fiasco so he asked to have a decent forward back. Probably could have gotten a 2nd or 3rd instead... or maybe even a young player with potential but Dorion gonna Dorion
Or he could have just flipped Kubalik as soon as he signed Tarasenko, just keep him in case it didn't work with Tank...
