Next Year Our Cap Troubles Go Away

Created by: Rooster
Team: 2024-25 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 5, 2023
Published: Oct. 5, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pipe dream I know. But the vibes coming out of TB aren't that great for Stamkos re-signing. He almost went home to Toronto last time he was a UFA. Why not lure him down the 401 and 416 to Ottawa? He'd be close to home and on an Atlantic team ready to compete for a Cup during his contract. Using Anze Kopitar's latest deal as a template for what Stamkos might fetch.

Flyers take this deal every day of the week, no?

Not really? Joseph is a solid bottom sixer but isn't needed since we're beginning a rebuild. Tyler Boucher was supposedly part of the asking price to take Joseph's deal, but he alone probably wouldn't suffice given many don't see him as a bargaining piece. Add a 3rd rounder or higher (if generous grin) and it'll probably go through.

No that’s why I said they decline lol. Boucher is barely worth a 4th himself so we are taking Joseph and his terrible contract for nothing? No lol not even close.

The only moment paying to move Joseph could have happened was leading to the beginning of this season but it seems very unlikely now.

Since this ACGM is for 2024-25, this trade won't happen. Unless they could really get Tamkos, I guess it could be re-evaluated but Joseph won't be a cap casualty anymore, unless you manage the offseason like Dorion just did.

Well it depends on how high they are on Boucher. As a rebuilding team, you're looking to add assets so they wouldn't normally want to trade a 4th but it depends if they think they can eventually sell Joseph (could retain to raise his value)

In reality, it's a pretty good for investment for a 4th round pick but the narrative on CF is not going to be that, it's going to be you need to give a lot of valuable pieces if you want them to get out of a 9 M$ cap dump! Some posters are a bit out of touch with reality here

Oh, even so this would be year 2 and we wouldn't be too much further ahead. Like I said the Flyers might consider it if an extra pick is being moved, but I'm not sure. I think with the rise of Foerster and Brink in our roster spots trading for another winger who is cap relief just seems like it would hurt younger guns' time unless they bury him in the AHL, but I think that wouldn't be the wisest investment.

In reality I'm not suggesting that the Flyers are the ultimate destination point for Joseph, and in an ideal real-world situation the Sens can afford to keep him as a 3rd line winger with the potential to play top 6 minutes in cases of injury. I was really impressed with Joseph when we acquired him, not so much last year. With that said, some of the asking prices for "cap dumps" are insane. People on this forum actually believe a player like Joseph would have to be shipped with a 1st round pick plus a high end prospect. That is absolute insanity.

I find it wild that people in these forums believe that a player like Joseph would need to include not one, but two sweeteners such as a 1st rounder and a high end prospect. That is absurd. In actuality, I don't want to lose Joseph as he's the ideal profile for an effective 3rd line winger. No idea how we solve the Pinto situation, but I'm hopeful it'll get done soon.

Yeah lol I have seen someone asking for Greig to take on Joseph

Imagine a GM sending Greig and Joseph to a team for free lol

A lot of times, proposals should be to "any team". You show the pieces you're proposing to "any team" and that's it. But the site doesn't allow to do that

I created a thread for that but no mods has done anything
