I don't think so. If the pick protection goes to top 2 I think it works. There's a good chance that's a top 5 pick

Montreal would never offer a pick that isn't top 5 protected at the least. That is the world we live in now. As for the rest quality > Quantity, Eklund is pretty legit

Eklund is very legit and patiently developed. This offer isn’t close.

Also Montreal isn't in a position to give up that much for Eklund. Now I get a lot of Montreal fans are ultra optimistic about their team and there is nothing wrong with that but they just aren't there yet.

they need to suck for another year. with a solid free agency on top of a top 5 pick and tampa/boston maybe even Florida taking steps back, they will improve

I get it as a Detroit fan we are in about the same position. So I'm not saying that to rag on Montreal it's just how the east is right now. Talented players become available every season so there is no need to give up too much for 1 before the team is ready. Montreal has a ton of talent in the minors and you don't know how it's going pan out what you need right now may not be the same in as little as a couple of months. Rob Talks Hockey brought up a really good point in a video he realized about 8 months ago The Deserving Downfall Of The Vancouver Canucks. In the video he explains how the amount of talent developed in your own system is directly connected to long term success. So if your team has the time it's another reason not to make a move like this and let your prospect develop. Since neither Detroit or Montreal is going to the playoffs it makes sense to sit back and see how the season plays out.

If you want Ekland, start with Reinbacher. Even then, probably a no go.

Sharks might trade you Bordeleau, though. And throw in Vlasic for free.
