Nucks should sell at TDL

Created by: Arcr1204
Team: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 12, 2023
Published: Oct. 12, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Lots of people planning the parade rn. I think if the Canucks aren’t in a top 3 spot in the division (unlikely) or firmly in a wildcard spot then they should sell at the TDL. 7 pending UFAs who would get pretty nice returns, plus move Garland or Boeser. Nucks need more young talent to surround this core for the coming years, as well as cheap elc talent to offset Pettersson’s major raise and the OEL buyout becoming more expensive.
What do these guys fetch at the deadline?
Trades
1.
VAN
ARI
  1. Beauvillier, Anthony ($2,075,000 retained)
Additional Details:
At 50% at least a 2nd and a good prospect. Similar numbers to Bertuzzi who fetched a 1st last year
2.
VAN
ARI
  1. Cole, Ian ($1,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Teams always willing to pay up for experienced dmen at TDL. Played top 4 mins for Tampa last year and will this year too in Van. Maybe gets a 1st
3.
VAN
ARI
  1. Myers, Tyler ($3,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
At 50% some team will pay up for him. RHD with lots of playoff experience
4.
VAN
ARI
  1. Lafferty, Sam
Additional Details:
3rd/4th? Part of the McCabe trade which returned a 1st and 2nd
5.
VAN
ARI
  1. Blueger, Teddy
Additional Details:
Returned a 3rd at last years deadline. Will have a bigger role on the Canucks this year than he did in PIT, but a 3rd is likely the best return they’d get
6.
VAN
ARI
  1. DeSmith, Casey
Additional Details:
Teams can get desperate for goaltending insurance. 3rd? 4th?
7.
VAN
ARI
  1. Joshua, Dakota
Additional Details:
For sure bottom 6 player who can move up in a pinch. Size and speed and pk ability. 3rd/4th?
8.
VAN
ARI
  1. Garland, Conor
Additional Details:
Looking at last year, MIN had trouble moving Greenway in season and he played a hell of a lot worse than Garland will. Greenway brought back a 2nd at the TDL, can Garland?

Gonna assume the yotes are just a placeholder team?

Problem with Cole is and a Canes fan said this to me last year when TB signed him he'll mostly play well ,however ,he has the uncanny knack of taking the absolute dumbest penalties @the worst possible times. He was right.

The thing is though, Petey wants to win and he has only 1 year till UFA... So if the Nucks make the playoffs, Petey is more likely to stay

Technically 2 years of team control left. I think they’d be better off selling him on a long term vision instead of making the playoffs in a wildcard spot only to get stomped in round 1 every year. Short term pain long term gain

Garland returns a 2nd (if he returns to his two-years-ago-play, if not, a 4th), Beauvillier, Blueger, Lafferty (if he’s given a bigger role on Vancouver, if not, he’ll only fetch a 5th again) and Cole will get you a 3rd, Myers and Joshua a 4th, DeSmith a 5th

Maybe in season, but looking at historical comps at the deadline I’d say they return quite a bit more than what you’ve said. Especially with 50% retention on Cole Beauvillier and Myers, that’s worth quite a bit to contenders
