Why would Vegas send draft picks and prospects/pieces and not even play them just have them on the bench?

I mean the way Kastelic's been playing so far, it might not be a bad idea to offload him for a 3rd.

This is a fairly inconsequential trade and don't mind the Pens trade, but you really need to retain on a $1.M contract for a player you're just going to bench? lol

Pens decline. I believe the $550k retention must be retained by the big club, so they’d be taking on the cap hit for no reason. If they just keep Pitlick buried he has no cap hit, and they really have no margin to do that.

Kastelic has played 1 season, he's dirt cheap, he can fight so Tkachuk doesn't have to do all the heavy lifting and more importantly, he's one of the best face-offs centers in the league. He doesn't have a great start but he'll be fine. We don't need that 3rd round pick more than him, and while Chartier is good defensively, depth is not a bad thing
