The Blues aren't retaining that much. Not for that anyway.

Curious what interests STL before I make a team here shortly?

What would be the genuine ask on a half retained Hayes? Got moved for a 6th this offseason but obviously worth more at 1.8M than 3.7M

Thought that package value was decent, 2nd round value (POJ) for player, 2nd round pick for retention

The flyers retained 50% and sent you Hayes for a 6th rounder, time to wake up.

A 2nd alone gets that done, might even be too much honestly. Hayes isn't exactly a world beater.

Not completely fair, that was a wildly different situation

yes, I'm aware the flyers needed to do it, but again my point stands. He's not worth that much even on retention.

What he was traded from Philadelphia is completely irrelevant to what he’s worth to the Blues.

There’s almost 0 reason for the Blues to do this unless we for some reason want Dean or Bolduc in the NHL lineup. Not trying to say Hayes is a world beater. But why downgrade and retain salary? You want to look purely in a vacuum sure maybe it’s worthwhile. But POJ is going to be stuck in a log jam here, which we already have. The 2nd is only valuable if the Blues are selling guys off. Harkins is a body.

Heh. Nobody who understands that what the Blues paid for Hayes is entirely irrelevant needs to wake up.

Not taking on cap burden, that's for sure.

Out of context, the value isn't terrible, but they are not in a position to eat someone else's cap burden and taking on yet another LD that isn't capable of partnering Parayko doesn't suit their needs. Basically, asking for this retention is presumably a non-starter.
