    Even if the Canucks wanted to make that deal, and I don't believe they want to retain that much, there's no way they could make the cap work.

    Everyone says this not realizing that its one year and the caps can easily eat his contract. His value isn't negative, not to mention Garlands value is negative

    Caps pass. Way too much for Garland. I like him but too much. Just eat the same amount of Mantha to make the cap hits even and leave it at that. No extras added.

    Garland's value isn't negative. But it might be right around zero. If the Canucks have to retain or add picks to move him why would we? He's a good player we just have a lot of wingers and could use the cap space but he's a good player without doubt and his contract is totally fine and odds are it'll look better each yr as the cap goes up.

    I think the only way Vancouver would retain is if the return was a player they need like a RD on a low contract. Other than that retention isn't smart.
