Description
So, it's a lateral move if Lohrei isn't ready yet. That's the X factor here imo.

Grz for Garland is a fair trade, threw in the 4th for the 1m retention. The tricky part is that Garland still has 3 years left on his deal, I just have no idea if the Canucks are cool with retaining, but then again it's only 1m so it's probably a non issue.

Basically the rationale here is that the Bruins are bottom heavy, and the Canucks are the opposite. Grz will probably have his spot taken by Lohrei by next year at the latest, so it makes sense to move him and get something in return because they have no need to bring him back on another contract. I'm a big Grz fan, but I'd rather see him get top 4 minutes in Van than 3rd pairing minutes in Boston. He'd get paid more too for that role, whether it's with Van or somewhere else in FA.

Having someone like Garland would help the Bruins while Zacha and Poitras develop. It will potentially keep them in the playoffs, and it will certainly help Poitras' development. If the Bruins are gonna run with 3 middle 6 centers, they'll need good wingers to support them in the meantime.

I do see Zacha as a solid 2c, Coyle as a solid 3c, and Beecher as an excellent 4c. Poitras isn't ready to be a 1c yet, but I can see that down the road for sure, he's good.

only problem i can see from van's perspective is they basically dont get any cap savings from doing this.

however, i think it would be a big win for them

Yeah, the Bruins wouldn't be able to assist in that regard. It's mostly a cap savings for the next two years. I think this trade makes a lot of sense for both teams.

Well, Lohrei isn't ready and they should keep Grzelcyk for now. Could make a case either way for Garland.

See the above for Garland, Grzelcyk, Lohrei and the cap.

The Bruins have their own version of Garland in the minors in Lysell who will be much cheaper for years when his time comes in Boston.
