I’m surprised that Vancouver is willing to retain on a quality player like Garland. Personally, I would try and move Beau/Myers with 50% retention to clear space before dealing Garland for peanuts.

I like the moves. It accomplishes several things. First, it gives the Canucks a little bit of Cap relief which they said they would require in a trade. I think $1.4M might be too much though. Probably closer to $1M retention which provides about $1M in CAP space for the Canucks. Secondly, Peeke would be an upgrade on Myers in the third pairing, and with a better partner could still improve. Finally, it creates enough room to add Bear too. Bear/Hronek/Peeke and Myers playing back up would be doable and an improvement. Moving Myers would be a priority, but not sure thats possible. Likely will have to hang on to im until his contract expires. If that means he spends it in the press box then so be it.

Ya. I agree. The 1485000 is 30% which is the upper limit Canucks will reportedly retain. 1 to 1.25 is more fair value. Garland is valued at around 3 to 3.5 type player for his actual play.

Moving Myers is impossible without having to give something good up.
