I could see it but I hope they just sign him to the 10 he wants and be done with it before he wants more like you’re got here

If we are signing Nylander to 10, Marner needs to go... You can't have 45 mill locked up in 4 players

I see J.T. taking a pay cut to Kadri / Kopitar style money, $7 million AAV.

So J.T. taking a $4 million paycut keeps the 3 young studs on the team.

JT comes off the books the following season — if this plays out I think it would be okay but you’d have to find a couple budget guys that out perform their contract like Nuge in Edmonton, micro Robo makes league minimum, Domi or whatever other LWer they sign needs to be cheap like that

Seems reasonable. Considering that he only wants 10M, it would be best to just give him that amount right now before he wants more later in the season due to his progression as he is on pace for 98 points. His pace probably won’t remain the same but in case it does, signing him now would be exponential.

If $10 million is his asking price, we still don't know his term length.

He might be trying to follow AM34 footsteps and only want a 4 or 5 year deal so he can land another super large contract in UFA.

Zero chance the leafs do 4 years they don’t want it to line up on another AM34 contract year but I could see 5 years or 6 but I’m really hopefully for 10Mx 8 years

Fair, but it's still concerning...

Probably will be 7 years, as I see Nylander stretching this process past July 1st.

Maybe... But I'm talking about next year... Especially bc everybody, outside of JT, will be in their primes (Nylander 28, Matthews 26, Marner 27, Rielly 30)

I understand the concern but I think the 1 year left on JT makes it okay for you guys

I also think try and get Benoit and Liljegren cheaper and try and sign Pesce instead of Klingberg

July 1st he becomes UFA and UFA's can only sign 7 year contract max. only RFA's (or players still under contract) can sign for 8 years.

It could work, I'd just rather have the cap flexibility and the assets

In my team ACGM description I stated all the other players I signed are just name place holder's, just to help budget the team.

But yes, with a little more effort and analysts I could find better UFA's (or trades) from other teams next summer.

What about Nichuskin or Forsberg? They both signed 8 year UFA deals after July 1rst

I think those contracts had a different UFA starting date, as the covid seasons screwed up the normal timeline.

Willy deserves at least 10 mil AAV. Guy gets better each season. He's in his prime and never misses games. He's one of the most consistent players in the league.

Maybe... It just doesn't say anything about not being able the sign for 8 year after July 1rst with your recent team...

In order for that to happen Nylander would need 120+ points

Gaudreau had 115 and got 9.75m in FA
Tkachuck had 104 got 9.5m
Kucherov had 128 signed 9.5m

Hes doing good but the slowdown's coming as hes not gonna keep this up the whole season

9.5m x 8 years is probs what he will get

The difference in the 3 players you mentioned is; they all play in the USA, it's a sad fact but... players demand more money to play in Canada.

Thats not always the case.

Tkachuck signed his deal in CGY than went to FLA via sign and trade

He could have asked for 10m then went to FLA. Gaudreau could have got more open market but took a discount in Columbus

Just because a guy plays in Canada does not mean he will be that overpaid in comparison to better players.

SJS offered JT 13m to come play for them when he was a FA took 2 mill less to go to Toronto, CBJ and NYI offered Marner 13m via offersheets took 1.2m less to stay

Willy at 9.5m is probs where he will be. As even if he goes to USA after what we saw with Gaudreau he may not even get to the 9.5m range down there.

Kucherov's deal was signed 4 years ago and was a team friendly deal at the time. Tkachuk's deal was also a team friendly one. Nylander already did his team friendly deal last time around while Marner and Matthews got the big contracts. This time around Nylander wants to get paid too. Can't blame him for that considering he's better than Marner who gets paid a whole lot more.

Gaudreau is overpaid and not as good as Tkachuk, Kucherov or Nylander.

I mean Gaudreau had more points than Chucky did 115 points is pretty good. If he went to NJ that contract would have been a steal but nope he went to CBJ where they are no where near as good. So of course a point drop would occur.

And as we saw with Gaudreau he took less to go to CBJ in Freeagency the time players should be making more but in his case he signed for less than what CGY offered

Nylander can ask for 10.5m but not many contenders if any will give him that. Not many have the cap. Now if he is just after the money he can get it via a non contender but doubt hes that type of guy

He will probs sign 9.5m x 8 years to stay in Toronto where he claims he wants to be
