Is the Slaf for KJ thing over yet

Description
The magnifying lens of MTL can be so oppressive. This rabid fanbase is freaking out because Slaf isn't the best offensive player in the draft. If you are calling for Slaf to get traded, after D+49 games, give your head a shake, honestly.

Statistically forwards peak in the NHL between ages 23-28. Statistically bigger body forwards take longer to make an impact in the NHL. Let's calm down and be logical about this. Would we all love it if our 19 year old Slaf hit the ground running like Logan Cooley? Yes of course. But if your attention span for a player is 49 games, then go watch UFC or something.

Let the kid play a few hundred games before you trade him. You'll feel pretty foolish if at 24 he breaks out like my man TT!

How many of you gave up on Mesar when he was not good in preseason? Would it surprise you to learn he has 7 points in 4 games since going back to the OHL?

How many of you gave up on Beck when he did not make the team this year? Would it surprise you to know he has 7 goals in 11 games since going back to the OHL?

This is not the mickey mouse development team of the past 20 years. This team understands player development and they ARE making calculated decisions with each player that are often unpopular, but they are doing it because its the best thing for each player.

One final thought, Josh Anderson is having a terrible start to his season. No player has failed to convert on more high danger scoring chances than him on the team. If he had converted like 3 of them, we would not even be having this conversation, cause Slaf would have the primary assist on all of them. Cooley has warts in his game as well. All we see are the points right now. The two players are not as far as it seems after 10 games.

1) Who the hell is KJ
2) Patience is key with Slaf but, he should've never played in the NHL last year he should've played in the AHL like Jiricek CBJ and Nemec for NJD who look to be developping well.
I even said Slaf should have started this year in the AHL but, the Habs suck a developping guys and rush everyone, that's why the panic button gets hit so early because the Habs management sucks at development and unfortunately Hughes is continuing that trend.
3) Could you Imagine Slaf playing with Roy in the AHL this year? They'd probably be dominating together and developing chemistry between highly likely future linemates but, all that gets put into question since we have no clue if Slaf will be able to maintain his confidence and positive attitude.
4) I'd take that deal as a Flames fan, gets the 1st rounder back so they can tank without worrying of losing a valueable pick

1) KJ = Kent Johnson
2) Habs used to suck at development, but I disagree with the idea that they still do. If you disagree about Slaf, can you agree on the 12 other players they are currently developing?

There’s way too much expected of young players now. They need time to marinate in the minors.

Semantics, but I tend to think those number include defensemen and Goalies who take longer.

Defence to goalies was 27-32, I thought...

Hence why I average it out to 25-30 for everyone...

Yeah... I get what you mean about semantics but I was pointing out how there's more time to be patient with Slaf

Thanks for clarifying the KJ part haha
I'd stick by what I said about them still sucking at development, you rushed your most valueable asset for no good reason. They had 14 or 15 NHL contracts at forward last year and rushed Slaf anyway, he played better than them in pre season but, what did you expect from the worst team the season before?
I'm 100% convinced they'd have rushed Hudson and Reinbacher if both those guys didn't chose themselves to go back to their old teams and continue their development.
The Montreal Media and fan base is a massive hypebeast and unfortunately management don't stick to proper development
If you're saying Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj, Barron etc are properly developed by current management, we'll see by the end season if they had better years than last year or if they stayed the same, since most of their development came from the Jrs. and College.
Beck, Mesar, Tuch, Hudson, Reinbacher have yet to really be developped by the organization yet, but look good.
The Rocket look to be doing good things but, it's all wait and see after guys like Roy etc get called up.
The Norlinder turnaround from dead prospect to being promising again is a great sign but, this stupidity with Primeau negates it in my eyes, trade him, waive him or play him but, sitting him in the stands isn't what I'd call development for a goalie some still believe is promising (I think he needs a change of scenery)

Close but not quite enough for Lindholm.

Regarding Slavkovsky I'd keep him over trading him for Johnson. Johnson is very overrated by Jackets fans.

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I want to clarify that I do not think about player development as what happens once they hit the NHL, but rather, what they do meeting with and coaching the players on skills development and professional development when in the lower leagues.

Many players who are having success at the lower levels have spoken about how Adam Nicholas emails them video clips of their games the day after each game and how he calls them weekly.

Josh Roy for example talked about how he focused on his defensive game.

Riley Kidney about how he was coached to play in the slot and not on the perimeter.

They are investing in taking these guys to school before they hit the NHL and during their time in the NHL. This may sound normal for most teams, but the Canadiens have not done this the past 20 years.
