New trade idea with the Canes

Description
Elliott Friedman on the latest 32 Thoughts Podcast mentioned that he thinks DeAngelo will be shopped by the Canes, assuming when Pesce's ready to return.

I know he's an all-offence guy, but would taking a flier on him be worthwhile for the Canucks if he's paired with a defensive-minded partner like Cole? I'm not sure what the Canes would be looking for, but a pick and Blueger to upgrade their 4C might be a decent offer? I honestly have no idea what DeAngelo would be worth at this point.

No, he's not... He's a career fourth-liner guy.

Carolina should honestly keep Tony D and rotate him and Chatfield as the 6D, then try and go for someone like Novak who only makes 800k

I think the problem is that Tony D doesn't play defense in a system that absolutely requires it

Staal's still putting up like 30 points a year... that's more than okay for a fourth liner

Yeah, I can see that. What about injuries though?

We have Dylan Coghlan in the minors and we can pull back Anttoni Honka from Europe if things get really desperate. The Hurricanes have more than enough organizational depth to deal with injuries

why would a team that is finding success want to poison the well with DeAngelo?

He's a good defensive/PK center in that role. I haven't seen enough of Drury to really judge if he's an upgrade or not.

They’re not going to call up a player from a European league, get real.

Also, if you think DeAngelo is bad defensively, Honka would be worse.

They need depth, which is why I don’t think they deal DeAngelo at all. 7 NHL D without an AHL affiliate isn’t a bad thing.

We don’t really need a Pker. We don’t use our 4th liner for that. Staal and Aho center our PK efforts

From the very small sample size that I've seen of Honka... he's better in his own end than you say he is. Tbh I don't care if DeAngelo is the 7D or not the organization it makes no difference to me.
