Gally is the heart of this team. Rather keep him than adding Campbell. We could try to flip Allen for a first if Hughes does his magic. So no from MTL.

If this was before the season i would probably say yes but everything since makes it a pretty easy no.

I dont think its any secret that from his injury in the 20-21 season to the end of last year he didnt look right. He got injured during that long playoff run didnt have a summer to recover then brok his ankle the next year.

He has shown though this year he is clearly healthy again. On pace for 30 goals AND all the underlying numbers back up his production. With that production and leadership hes not deadweight anymore. Even if he slides a bit and more of a 20-25 goal 50ish point guy thats still a good option especially as hes not on the top pp.

To give up allen with retention and taking back foegele that already is a 1st and to take campbell back they would need to give a whole lot more.

Gallagher is valuable to Montreal and Campbell is 4x$5M for a cap dump that will cost the equivalent of 3 firsts minimum.

If Campbell costs 3 firsts, Gallagher would cost 5 for Edmonton to take on.

What you dont seem to understand is that Montreal doesn't want to dump him. They are rebuilding, they have cap space and he's the heart of the team, mentoring young guys. Same reason Chicago gives Perry and Foligno $4M per year, objectively massive overpays.

So if Edmonton WANTS Gallagher they will pay to buy him from Montreal who does want him.
