Description

Assuming no other contracts with term (ie. Garland) are moved out, the team can afford to extend Petey and Hronek but will then need to find a few value plays to fill out the rest of the lineup. I don't see the team being in on big ticket UFA's like Pesce or Hanifin, so the team will probably look very similar to what we have this season, hopefully with a slightly upgraded defence though.

If Cole would sign another 1 year deal I'd be happy to have him back.
Same goes for Bear if he seems like he's fully recovered. I'd try a 1 or 2 year "prove-it" deal with him.
I like Chatfield as a solid RD3 option.
Caleb Jones could be a decent depth add as well; he hasn't played yet this year for CAR but he was good last year in CHI.

Tanev could also be an option if Bear moves on somewhere else.
Later in the season Willander could be an option out of college.
Hopefully some of the other young guys also give a push from the AHL ranks; Hirose, McWard, Woo, etc.

I think the Canes match that fairly easily on Chatfield. That's about as much as I think they'd give him for his production.

Curious to see if they'd offer him a regular starting-6 role out of the gate though. They're so deep this season, but next year's Canes lineup could look a lot different.

True, there's only 3 signed D-men for next year, but the top line is settled in with Slavin/Burns (unless Burns wants to retire a year early). I sort of imagine the lines being something like

Slavin-Burns
Orlov-Pesce (if he resigns)/Morrow (if he ends up joining the team next year)
