Hard pass on the CGY deal. We can't be spending top tier assets on defense unless it's a #1D. Any assets need to go getting a legit top line guy.

Weird statement. That offer is pretty subpar and Hanifin isn't signing for less than 6M. Not to mention Hanifin is absolutely a 1st pair caliber defenseman

I'd be hesitant to send these assets if we weren't also getting a young top 9 forward who can slot in at any position and produce offensively. Not to mention he can also slot in on the PK and is also has good CF numbers. Given what we've seen from McMichael, I think Dube could also thrive in the caps' system.

Not even close for Dube and Hanifin, And reports are that Hanifin is seeing 7.00 x 7 and he's not joining a Washington team in total decline. He'll be seeking a cup contender not a pretender.

He just not a #1 guy. We have plenty of D, need that top line guy way more.

He is absolutely a top line caliber defenseman. But if you think you are getting a legitimate #1 with the pieces involved you are completely out to lunch. The last #1 moved cost the 12th OA pick (that was top 5 protected), a 2nd that could have upgraded 1st depending on playoff results, and another 2nd on top of that. And that was all after that player asked for a trade too. Personally I wouldn't trade a 12th OA pick for the entire offer above.

I'm not out to lunch because I said I wouldn't do this trade lol My point is we are fine on D. Could we do better? Sure, but we're fine. The main issue remains a top line player. Any pieces need to be used for that.
