I doubt Lou is going to move Romanov just like that, especially since he paid a 1st for him and he's signed to another year

Zadarov is the type of defenseman you bring in to help bring Romanov along. Also you can’t count on Pelech’s health in the long term based on his recent history. Same goes for Mayfield and Pulock.

It might be an overpayment based on market value and what people think Romanov is , but it’s a fair trade in terms of on ice impact

Romanov has negative hockey iq . That doesn’t get better with age

We see a lot of defenseman find their stride in their late 20’s. Zadarov is one of those guys who was viewed as having a negative hockey IQ. You could argue Mike Matheson is the same way. I know lightning fans who didn’t/don’t like Sergachev!!! #28 isn’t the issue on the isles blue line imo. Biggest issue is health followed by covering for Anders Lee. Hopefully Lee can bounce back given his incredibly low shooting percentage.

Zadorov never had IQ problems. He had an elite defensive skillset but his offense took a while to develop. Matheson just took a lot of dumb penalties, same with sergachev.

Romanov looks like he doesn’t know how to play hockey most of the time. I say this as someone who was a fan of the trade at the time. He can throw hits, that’s it. Can’t pass, defend , shoot etc .

It means Zadorov is better than Romanov.
