The gap between McDavid isn’t as big as people think and Matthews is far superior defensively plus signed longer. Leafs have their cap structured to go after McDavid if he hits free agency and they’ll take their chances if he hits the market instead.

Preds aren’t looking to rebuild. They’re still looking to contend/retool. They’ll want roster players for Saros and I don’t think anyone on here realizes that no team is going to help Edmonton out and take that Campbell contract. He’s been available since the summer and there’s not one bit of interest in taking it even with sweeteners right now.

2018/19 draisaitl was better and won the hart
2019/20 draisaitl was better
2020/21 draisaitl was better
2021/22 Matthew’s was better and won the hart
2022/23 draisaitl was better
But Matthew’s is also miles better defensively easily take him over draisaitl any day

18-19 Drai was better
19-20 I take Matthews, more goals in less games... And better defensively that year, but you could take Drai
20-21 Matthews was far and away better, he was on pace for 60, better defensively in less games and not that far off in PPG
21-22 Matthews is obviously better
22-23 Drai was better
23-24 It's Matthews and not close

Matthews is also 2 years younger and has been better at least 5/8 season and I would argue 6/8 seasons... Draisaitl would have to come with multiple quality assets in a trade for Matthews
