Initial Creation Date: Nov. 17, 2023
Published: Nov. 20, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Direction: None. This team isnt making the playoffs in 23-24 or 24-25, but wont be getting top 5 picks either. 2025 looks to be the offseason where we will blow it up, so 2024 is another developmental year where we assess the young talent we have. So I say we play them all a bunch and see how they do. Please for the love of god hire Mitch Love to be the head coach. I did a super detailed AGM linked below if you are interested.

I messed around with the idea of trading for and extending Hanifin but I only like that if we move Pelech and Pulock too at this point, also probably Romanov. Dont want the entire defense signed for 6+ years but I do really want Hanifin to pair with Dobson

Why does Dufour for Farrell "make tons of sense for both sides"? Honest question, not trolling.

Islanders need LW prospects, Montreal needs RW. Dufour is 22 in January and Farrell just turned 22 so they are similar age, they have produced similarly in the AHL, Dufour has struggled to start this season but the AHL islanders are all horrifically bad so its not truly on him all too much.

Ive seen Habs fans float around the idea of this too and it seems like it could make sense

Farrell is playing RW on a line with Gignac & Roy though...

I went to see Laval play the other day and Farrell impressed me so much with his puck protection and poise. I would not trade him, as I am feeling 100% sure he will be a top 6 winger in Montreal by 2026. I don't know about Dufour though... It bugs me that he did not make the Islanders this year.

Would you consider Luke Tuch? He's having a hell of a season at BU. I had given up on him, but now I am thoroughly excited to see him take the next step. His consistency is probably the best of any Habs forward this season.

Or how about RHP or Pezzetta if you want someone a little more "battle-hardened"?

Im a BU fan so i like tuch, could work too. I think theres also a possibility he doesnt sign in MTL, tho. But I could see a sign and trade if he wanted that and I wouldnt be too opposed.

Its more so the natural LW vs RW thing for me, but if MTL wants to keep Farrell I wont fight them on it. Just an idea I saw a few of them post a few days ago

I think he will sign. No one who has played with Lane Hutson and had the success he has, will walk away from it. He also fills an organizational need for forwards with Size who can contribute to the offense.

Besides Tuch, the Habs only have Xhekaj who is also having an incredible breakout season in the OHL (for a guy everyone said we reached for in the 4th round).

Don't think the Palmieri trade makes too much sense for Vegas. He has another year left on that deal and they probably want to position themselves with as much cap space as possible this offseason for a big FA signing like a Reinhart or Nylander. He's also just too old and slow for a swift Vegas team that likes to outskate their competition.

What would you see as fair value for Pulock to Wpg?

If he waives, 1st (if around 12-20 range in 2024 use that, if not make 2025 1st but top 10 protected), Schmidt (cap dump), Lucius then a Salomonsson, Chibrikov, or 2nd rounder, or something similar to those values

Even a Barron or something like that, but id want a 1st and Lucius.

Also I assume Lambert and Rutger are unavailable but if not id want them lol.

No doubt! Rutger is a folk hero in Win already. There would be riots. Maybe Lambert with a 1st and Schmidt .
I love the fit with this jets team! Manitoba boy too!

I think it's different for american born players versus canadian born players playing a 4th season in the NCAA.
Luke Tuch can finish the season, wait just a couple of months and sign right away with any team.
And I've read a few times that the Tuch brothers are very close and have a great relationship; huge family guys.
Alex is apparently THRILLED to be playing in Buffalo, where his whole family lives.
I would NOT be surprised at all if Luke decides to wait until August 15th and sign with Buffalo to play with older brother, and close to family.

Not to diss anything about Montreal as a city or the Habs as a team; only that playing with big brother and close to all the family can really feel like a dream come true for many people.

I mean, I can see it. He was expecting a contract offer in the offseason that never came. Now that he's having success, he could "flip the Habs the bird" and sign elsewhere. That being said, I still think he signs in MTL.

Like others have mentioned on here, Tuch seems a more appropriate candidate to prospect swap with MTL. I'm confident Habs management are pretty high on Farrell and won't move him just for the sake of moving him, and Farrell already has a proven track record of success playing against men (World cup, Olympics, current success in the AHL, etc.)
