If Montreal was able to unload Anderson and Gallagher somewhere else I think that they would be justified in giving him $11,000,000.00 per year for 7 years. Now the other thing is whether he would ever come to Montreal. If they draft highly again this year (pretty well a given) he could be playing with some good young talent over the next several years that will be starting to come into form.

He should stay in Toronto. They should sign him for $12M per.

bro come on, you habs fans always do this. you guys need a reality check lol.

listen, i dont know where Willy is gonna sign this summer - could be Toronto, could be a lot of other places.

i'll tell you one thing tho, I know it will absolutely NOT be in Montreal. I think even the players can see what the rest of the hockey world sees, which is that this young core of the Montreal team is incredbily flawed and really not built for playoff success.

of course, this is assuming Willy wants to go to a contender... maybe he doesn't care about winning, in which case, I guess a MTL deal wouldn't surprise me. but if that's the case, i feel like a anaheim / panthers destination would make a lot more sense than MTL

why would he get more than the Huberdeau deal? Hubby put up like 120 pts or something ridiculous and only got 10.5 mil with CGY, signed by Brad Treliving.

you guys need to remember that ONE phenomenal season does not warrant the player receiving an 8 year deal at ridiculous money like 12-13mil. we've seen it many times. I can virtually guarantee you William Nylander does not sign for anything north of 11, and even that is pushing it.

Honestly not a thing excellent player but unless he's willing to stay around what he's making now absolutely no chance TB could afford him. Can't see TB giving a UFA more than Kucherov.

People don’t understand that with the 8th year Toronto can give the cap hit comes way down

7years at 12 mill is a total of 84mil
8years at 10.5 mil is total of 84mil

That’s just an example cause who the hell is giving Willy 12 mil. That’s why it will for sure be under 11mil probably close to 10.25 or 10

The rest of the contracts on the leafs just doesn’t matter anymore cause it’s a new GM in town.

Marner won’t be getting much more either. He might go up 100,000 to 11mil

Oh I 100% agree. I just look at Nylander's history of hold out and I'm sure he's looking at Matthews extension thinking to himself..."Why shouldn't I be a $13M player if 21 points can get $13.25...why shouldn't 27 get $13M??? Why am I supposed to accept what Marner got for his PREVIOUS contract? He doesn't realize that he's a 1 dimensional player. He doesn't see Gaudreau's 115 point season netting $9.75 or Hubs getting $10.5 off another 115 point season.

matthews is a top 3 player in the league and is by and large the most elite goal scorer in the NHL... at the end of the day, Willy is kidding himself if that's the bar he's comparing himself to.

completely different players - not at all a valid comp (whether he's thinking it or not - personally, I don't think he or his agent is foolish enough to believe he deserves top 3 in the league type of money)

So I agree with you. The difference in what we're saying is the size of the gap in talent. I don't think eve he's looking for more than Matthews, but I can EASILY see that dilution in his head where he's got more points and thus deserves somewhere near the same contract. He doesn't do anything else and that's what TOR asks him to singularly focus on...points...except when it comes to contracts/dollars. That's a hard sell. To ask a guy on the ice to singularly focus on points...you do as commanded in spades, but now when it comes time to give a contract, no dice? Not an impossible sell, but not easy at all. Add in his history...rock and a hard place for sure.
