Only way to make a true needle moving trade would be to trade the 1st with Cowan.
Players like Geuntzel and Buch are gunna for 2 first round picks so any defenceman that moves the needle is going to be the same.
I think the leafs should try and add good depth at cheap cap hits that will be on the team for the next couple years. Good depth can go a long way. Both Vegas and Florida had great depth and that was one of the reasons the had so much success

I like the Wsh one cause TvR can play 20 minutes a night, he’s on the PK and might fit with Rielly nice for only 1.5mil for the next couple year. Could definitely see him out playing that contract

Ya not even sure if Philly would part with Laughton. Also hopefully he’s more like a 20 goal scorer with the leafs cause 3 mil seems like a lot

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Not sure what world you live in, but you also asked for Kap with retention in this trade. I have no idea how much of that offer you figure Sunny would cost. But again, he's not going anywhere unless he asks to. Dude loves the Blues, loves STL, his lady is there, he owns his home there, and he rejected several considerably larger offers to return there for 1 x minimum. And for that minimum, he provides a lot of experience, and a lot of necessary services, and can even play up the lineup in a pinch. Which every contender will crave at the TDL. Because he makes nothing.
Just look around the AGMs here. Damn near every playoff team has 2-3 Sunny AGMs per day. Some teams have more like 8-10 a day. If he goes up, he will be among the most popular players. Again, because he offers a lot for minimum AAV. Nobody is saying he's an all-star, dude.</div></div>
I never said he’s an All star or thought u were saying he was one. But again for a team the is barley in the playoffs and will probably have to play the avs or some other really good team in the first round ( if u make it) why not go the sunny and say hey we love u and want u back in the summer but we think we can get something for u this year and trade him.
Now for value again
Kappy is a 3rd
Retaining is a late pick like a 7th
Sunny literally got traded with the same stats last year for a 4th
So a 4th and a prospect would probably be enough.
Just cause lots of team want a play the doesn’t automatically mean he goes for a 2nd. GMs aren’t dumb a 4th line centre rental is not worth that much. He’s good at the cost but the impact he makes when he’s on the ice for 12minutes is comparable to other players the teams could get for the same price.
At max he goes for a 3rd but I doubt it

Maybe he resigns but he could definitely be trading in the mean time and a 4th is what he’s worth.
It make so much sense if the blues are confident in him resigning then trade him for a pick and keep the playing in the summer. That’s good management

Kappy =3rd
Retention = 7th
Sunny = 4th

Lilly does less than what seeler would do. At least seeler is a good PKer. I don’t get why people say don’t trade Lilly, what exactly does he do so amazing that he just can’t be moved cause from what I see Benoit has passed him on the depth chart. IMO he’s gunna become a Dermot so get rid of him ASAP.
They may not get him but boy dose Brad want him bad so I think he makes it happen. Calgary say they want a second plus a prospect well there u go, maybe the prospect isn’t good enough but he can be swapped out for someone else if need be.
Why wouldn’t Kampf waive, he would end up making more money cause of the taxes and might even play more. The leafs over paid to keep him here so I don’t think he love Toronto so much he would never leave.
Also scissons is a solid 3C that’s good defensively and if the caps want a 1st for Dowd I’m sure scissons would go for about the same, and in the deal the leafs get a big 4th liner and get off Kampf in the future. Win win win

Maybe but Chychrun gets his minutes with only 2nd PP time but could run the 1st.

What has Lilly shown that makes u want to keep him so bad? He’s an offensive defenceman that doesn’t produce. Isn’t physical and doesn’t play on the pk. The only reason for the leafs to keep him is he’s probably cheap.
Maybe in a couple full seasons he’ll be good but for now I’ll take Chychrun who plays over 22 minutes and puts up over a half point per games every year

top 4 money
Honestly I think the best idea for the leaf is wait until free agency and sign Willy and extend Mitch to matching 11.25 million dollar contracts on the same day July 1st
Mitch might be worth more but I honestly believe he has learned from his mistake with his last contract. He pressed the leafs for as much money as he could get and honestly been over payed for years now considering comparable wingers like Rantanen and tkachuk make 9.5.
He got a lot of hate from his home town and I think taking not much of a raise would help his image in Toronto.
With John I definitely think he’ll be smart and sign a long term low AAV to retire as a leaf. If he took and 7year 3mil contract he would be loved. Massive cap relief for the team but John still gets big bucks with a front loaded bonus structure and when he’s too old just slap him on LTIR and the cap hit won’t affect the team. Would be the best thing for his legacy in toronto

You're right about the Leafs having few NHL prospects (thanks Dubas). Most teams need some young players on cheap ELCs playing above their contract to make the team cap work. Leafs have two, Knies and Robertson.
Going into tonight's game, the Leafs were fifth overall in the league, despite all the doom and gloom. So, i hope Trevling doesn't wants to turn the Leafs into the 27th place Flames or the his Flames that made the playoffs 50% of the time.</div></div>
For sure.
It definitely makes me nervous knowing he’ll have some cap in the offseason. I just hope he makes smart moves on players that are for sure useful or 1 year deals so they aren’t locked in.
There’s a big chance for him in the next couple year to make a true cup contender but who knows what he does

The problem is they don’t have enough pick or prospects to get players that would really make a difference.
He’s always had very defensive teams. Good D core and 2 way centres but that’s not what he has so I’m sure he doesn’t even love the team right now.
He’s made some bad signings but honestly his trades were pretty decent. The tkachuk trade was looked on as really good when he made it but messed up by signing the players after. He should’ve let it play out so hopefully he learned.
The main thing is he’s finally in a place where players want to come and stay unlike Calgary.
I think to really judge him we need to see the team after the deadline and to start next season

Really you've trading Timmins and demoted Giordano just to insert Risto and Larsson....and giving a first, Niemela, Holmberg, Steeves and Samsonov too.
So you don't like Timmins in the playoffs with the Leafs. Great, let's go with Risto who has never played an NHL playoff game.</div></div>
