Description
Which trade is best for the leafs and their future?

All trades would start with Torontos 1st this year.
But what else?

Wsh trade leafs get a middle 6 guy and a solid defender that plays the right side. With retention TvR would be great on the leafs for the next couple years
Wsh has too many aging RHDs and would probably and to get rid of one.
Mantha would fit great on the leafs new first line bumping out Robo in the playoffs.

Nsh trade is 2 rentals but maybe resigning Carrier is possible depending on the price.
Both Trenin and carrier play on the PK and could make the leafs PK better. Trenin is a big physical bottom 6 guy that could play on the 4th line and make it super responsible. I’m not sure if Carrier would fit the new d pairs but maybe it could work.

Arizona trade add some centre depth and a physical top 4 guy in Dumba. Again the fit with him and Rielly might not be great but who knows. Bjugstad would be like having another Jarnkrok that is bigger and abit more physical for this year and next. He would be good this year and next on the 3rd line.

Philly trade gets the leafs a solid 3rd liner and a RHD who is having a career year. Walker would be a rental but would help the leafs this season. Again walker might not fit well with Rielly but could fit somewhere else.

Should the leafs trade their 1st with other assets in a bigger deal? Or just make small moves to improve the team?

Could get depth D for cheap that might fit with Rielly.
Some options
- BOGO
- Lyubushkin
Then add a depth forward.

What should Brad do??

Ps. Tanev is probably a no go cause I don’t think Calgary wants to deal with Brad

Laughton, Walker is the best pair to add. But also going to cost the most, imo.

Ya not even sure if Philly would part with Laughton. Also hopefully he’s more like a 20 goal scorer with the leafs cause 3 mil seems like a lot

I like the Wsh one cause TvR can play 20 minutes a night, he’s on the PK and might fit with Rielly nice for only 1.5mil for the next couple year. Could definitely see him out playing that contract

Forget about future. Go win. You’re never getting another Matthews again. Certainly not one with Marner and Nylander. Go win

yea the leafs should go for it but none of these moves are needle movers, it's just making a move for the sake of making it. not worth

Only way to make a true needle moving trade would be to trade the 1st with Cowan.
Players like Geuntzel and Buch are gunna for 2 first round picks so any defenceman that moves the needle is going to be the same.

I think the leafs should try and add good depth at cheap cap hits that will be on the team for the next couple years. Good depth can go a long way. Both Vegas and Florida had great depth and that was one of the reasons the had so much success

Think you're being a silly saying theh Calgary and Leafs GMs wouldn't trade with one another. Calgary if sellers would take the best offer possible.
But why is there this obsession that the Leafs HAVE to trade. Any incoming player would have to replace a player that makes the better AND is difference maker.

If you drop the retention on TVR, the first round pick should be plenty. But I think that Philly package would make the most sense for Toronto. Arizona wouldn’t be terrible either.
