Probably NYR don't, I'd do it though

This is more the type of Monahan trade I am hoping for. 1 player who can help us as soon as next season.

Would have to add more value going to NYR, Monahan's fine but Kakko is near untouchable as a prospect can be from NYR's side, I get he's 22, but still

Rangers wouldn’t move Kakko for a rental and prospect they don’t need. They would just trade picks for Monahan and keep Kakko

He isn't... But it won't be for a package like this... There would have to be a lot going the other way

It just doesn’t make sense if they’re going all in to trade away Kakko because that leaves a hole on the right side. They would just trade picks for Monahan

I was thinking that with his poor production maybe the price had come down. Habs could send back a bottom 6 player like Ylonen maybe to plug the hole?

It just doesn’t make sense. Laffy was down this bad last year and bounced back this year. Plus it really doesn’t help that Kakko is playing with Bonino while chytil is out

Rangers will probably do picks and lower tier prospects for their deadline rentals

I get that. No one wants to sell low. But I guess they have to be asking themselves how the conversation in the offseason is gonna go. I doubt Kakko wants another 2M contract and if his production doesn't warrant a larger deal, it might be contentious?

Get that with Kakko, but he's also their 2 OA pick... Would prob rather bet on him then not

What would be the realistic hope for Kakko in Montreal?
I envision Suzuki, Caufield, Dach,Slafkovsky, Roy and Montreal’s 2024 pick (hopefully a forward as well) ahead of him on the top 2 lines. Then he is competing with Newhook, Farrell and Mesar for a spot.
Also, hopefully in 2 to 3 years Montreal adds a significant free agent forward.
I am not saying Kakko is necessarily a bad idea, but I am curious where he would fit in for the future, since he has not proven a lot so far.

That's a lot of projection for Roy, Farrell, and Mesar. Maybe it happens. I hope it happens. But I don't think we can assume all 3 of those guys become consistent NHL forwards in top 9 roles.

I understand the sentiment but bottom line not something NYR need to do, they are playing good and winning. No need to press the panic button. Let Kakko work through it this season. That is what I think they should do at least.

Do you think Kakko is likely to turn out to br a 1st line, 2nd line or third line player?
I see 2nd line at best (although his physical stature is pretty good…maybe he would compliment Suzuki and Caufield well).

After reading everything my opinion is kakko is still solid defensively and on 22. Yeah his production is down but like someone said he's been playing with bonino. And old man wheeler shouldn't be on the top line.

1st line upside IMO. To me saying KK 2.0 is a middle 6 player is similar to saying Dach is a middle 6 forward.

I don't read every ACGM post but out of the ones I've read this is one of the smartest I've read in a quite a while. every fan base would love for their prospects to all reach their full potential but it just doesn't happen. I don't know if anyone here frequents HockeyDB.com but you can view players by draft year or by team. The link below is the team index page and it does a really good job of illustrating the point john514 is making in this post.
