How much would that bear contract be actual money wise? bc you guys don't get accrued cap space.

It would still be 1.65M. He'd just get paid more of it over the shortened season.

Unless I'm mistaken that's not how it works. Would be cap circumvention

Oh woops, I was talking about salary.

Yeah at this point it would be about 2.5M cap hit if he signed for 1.65M

I'm honestly confused as to why, if bear is injured, the canucks didn't just resign him and stick him on LTIR to start the year since they're already using LTIR space? Then they could pay him a full 1.6 without a cap hit being higher. Maybe the league would have looked at that as cap circumvention too tho idk. Or Ig maybe the 10% rule to start the year?

The Canucks plan was to re-sign him at a higher rate, 2.2m-3m range, before he was injured. Because he was injured with a December/January return time, that meant the Canucks turned their focus towards two defenders in FA, rather than just one. Cole and Soucy were signed, and the idea was that Vancouver would clear cap space out before Bear returned, either through other LTIR or trades. I think Canucks management is worried that Bear may not be playing at 100% for this season, and intend to sign him closer to league minimum as a 'show me' and then determine out of Bear/Zadorov/Cole which ones stay next year.

Yeah, the cap hit in this team was just a placeholder, kind of pointless trying to guess what his contract will be given the circumstances. I personally think the league min is the most likely outcome, but that's obviously not an accurate representation of his value.
