Sorry Mercer is freshly 22. He’ll still be 22 this offseason and so will have 4 years of RFA control. If you’re saying he gets 6 on his 4 years of RFA control, and swayman gets 6 on an 8 year deal, you’re saying that Mercer is a significantly more valuable asset than swayman.

I don't think its an indicator of who is a more valuable asset. It is just an indicator of the $ market for goaltenders... only 3 goalies in the NHL make more than $6.4M (Price, Bob, and Vasi). Goalies don't make the money that skaters do.

That being said, I think Swayman has a larger impact on team success than Mercer. If you put Swayman on the Devils, they have significantly more wins than they do now.

Yes. The NHL values Mercer type assets more than it values Swayman type assets.

So far this year yeah you’d rather have Swayman, but 22 year old Mercer is a much more trusted asset for the next 8 years. With how goalies are Swayman could be great again next year, average next year, bad next year, or even horrific next year (look at Saros and Gustafsson this year).

Which is why Mercer type assets are valued higher in the NHL, both in terms of trades and in terms of money.

The problem with goalies as assets is their past performance is less indicative of future performance than any other position.

Bruins again wont trade there goalies. Why are we ignore the fact that Redwings have 3 goalies and Stolarz. If knight figures it out in the AHL which he hasnt really. But when he does i think Knight will be called up and Stolarz could be moved
