Hanifin Deal

Created by: Celtics21
Team: 2023-24 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 5, 2023
Published: Dec. 5, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
They will be heavy left handed shot focused, but getting Lysell to join the Coyle/Frederic line is an interesting potential solution. Can Grz play his offside?
Trades
BOS
  1. Greer, AJ
  2. Hanifin, Noah ($2,475,000 retained)
Additional Details:
I crapped on a similar deal to this, but maybe it does make sense on the surface. I would require us to continue to go with the thinner front line, but does allow us to lean more into the defensive roster
CGY
  1. Geekie, Morgan
  2. Lohrei, Mason
  3. 2025 1st round pick (BOS)

Hanifin doesn't seem like the logical choice at all for them

In the real world with the cap, I don't think going after Hanafin makes sense. The D could of course be better, but he's going to command too much AAV next year to be worth re-signing, and the Bruins shouldn't give up assets just to go all-in this year IMO. I think a depth D move makes more sense, like a reasonably priced upgrade on the 3rd pair. I could be talked into giving up assets to get a top 6 F that will re-sign, but my preference is still to wait until next offseason to address that.

BOS has no real need for Hanifin in my opinion. There are other more glaring needs.

I’d argue that both Zacha and Coyle are outplaying our entire left handed defensive core. Hell, I’d argue that Heinen annd JVR are outplaying Grz and Forbort right now.

If Hanifin wants to sign here, I’m OK with it. He’s a damn good defenseman who stays healthy. Our top 4 defenseman with these goalies would be really fun to watch. I agree that it could create a logjam with powerplay minutes and that is not optimal, but a top 4 of Lindholm/McAvoy and Hanifin/Carlo is fricking impressive.

I agree that acquiring him and keeping Lohrei would be a mistake, but this deal … basically replaces Grz but keeps him as viable depth.

The deal as mentioned here is something I could see Sweeney do. I’m more in on Hanifin than Lindholm because of age at this point.
