This game definitely sucked and blowed. I don't need to see anymore of this group. After 100 games I know what this mix of players will bring to the table, it's time to change whatever we can.

We keep running Mangiapane and Dube out like this and they might be worth nothing by the end of the season.

Darryl may have been a dick, but I'm starting to believe he might have known more than I give him credit for.

Honestly, my expectations were low this season and for the most part, they have played 500 hockey, which is no different than last year without Toffoli, their leading scorer. Sutter was a terrible judge of talent, which was his biggest issue as a GM and Coach. Guys like him never last in one place too long.

I agree, they need to stop meddling around with being " competitive" when they clearly aren't. They need to acquire as much draft capital as possible this year to make up for that debacle of "standing pat" at the deadline last year.

They might still be competitive with Coronato and a cheap acquisition like Duclair in the lineup.

I know they're not competitive as currently constructed. You can't win when it feels like only half the team shows up on any given night.

Huska has to have a soft touch trying to rebuild the team after Darryl. Conroys going to have to weild the hammer and clear guys out.

@Dr_Invictus
Of course the Sabres want to make the playoffs
BUT
we aren’t gonna give up assets like that unless the players we’re trading for fit into our plans long term

So *IF* we wanted those particular players to be part of our long term “core” (and that’s a big IF imo),
then they’d have to come with extensions

Bc theWookiee is 100% correct
There’s ZERO CHANCE we’d trade those assets for “rentals”

And the extensions these guys would want VS what we’d be willing to give them could further complicate things

Buffalo has the longest playoff drought in NHL history, despite having all the core pieces of a contender. At some point, you need players who are not liabilities away from the puck. Being sellers forever doesn't work. That return isn't significant for those players. Ostlund is a solid prospect, but it isn't like Buffalo is going to be sliding him into the top line with the current forwards under contract. Consider the number of sign and trades that have ever happened in the NHL....5? It's more likely that they would grant agents permission to speak with Buffalo prior to the deal.

AZ has amassed enough picks and prospects that they are close to their reserve limit. At what point do they trade a pick to acquire a player?

Doesn’t matter
The Sabres ARE NOT trading assets like that for rentals
Just bc we have better prospects, it doesn’t mean Ostlund isn’t a really good one- and it doesn’t mean we’ll make a bad trade
