What makes you think that the Oilers can fit Bob under the cap? Because it ain’t happening.

I took back 8.25 in salary coming back. Given the expected 4.4 cap ceiling increase, I thought it was manageable.

3.225 of that cap increase will be allocated to Brown’s bonus overage, the Oilers would still have to replace Ceci on defense (amongst other needs), and Leon and Bouchard will be getting significant raises very soon. There’s just a 0% chance that Bob would work in Edmonton.

If I'm not mistaken, the James Neal buyout penalty expires when Bouchard, Leon, and McLeod are up. Also gotta factor in another 4 ish mill cap increase for 25/26 as well. I'm not saying it'll be easy but it's certainly not impossible to do.

Also, what are the chances that the Oilers won't be on Bob's 16-team NT list? Hint: He's playing in a warm, sunny tax-free state. EDM has the 11th highest-tax rate, the least amount of sunlight, and the 2nd coldest location to play in during the winter.

Good point lol. I was so focused on the on-ice factors that I completely overlooked the off-ice factors. But hey, maybe McDavid and Co. is a big enough attraction.

Who knows? But I doubt that it would be the case for Bobrovsky. Someone once mentioned that the appeal of staying in FLR for him is also the camaraderie that he has with the TB Russians. There's also going to be a lot of pressure to perform for whoever replaces Campbell if he's traded. The media in Edmonton are pretty annoying too.

He might also really like it in FLR, his protection allows him to significantly lower the chances of getting traded.

So Florida trades the best goalie and a first round pick just to get out of one year of a large cap hit and a forward they don’t need

I've seen some Bob trades here before but does the poster bother to look at Knight's AHL stats? Cause they're awful, he isn't at all ready to be an NHL starter and Petersen's AHL numbers aren't any better.

Bobrovsky's contract isn't great but he's still a top 10 goalie in the league, the Panthers would be capital F ****ed without him.

Bobrovsky would've been the Conn Smythe trophy winner if Florida won the cup last year.
So you're trading a 2x Vezina winner, who is having an elite season this year for a $5M goalie who can't save a beachball in the AHL right now?

Does that sound right to you?

As an Oilers fan, I commend the interesting Bob option. Haven’t heard his name floated around, but at his cap hit it makes sense.

Oilers goaltending needs are for this year though, so he has to fit this years cap. This just wouldn’t work cap wise, unless some retention happens on Bob, and oilers throw in Broberg for the retention.
