The Rangers trade makes no sense. If the Blues rebuild why would they trade one of their best assets for a 30 yo defenseman @ 8M? You would think they would target young cost controlled players and look for expiring contracts to add more value coming back

Still makes no sense. Why wouldn’t they target a cost controlled young defensive player or prospect. Instead they take an asset and flush it for a 8M player on a team that won’t win in the next 3 years

It's basically a lateral move. Schmidt is better defensively, Faulk offensively. The difference is, Schmidt's contract is done next year while they'd be stuck with Faulk's contract until he's 35. That's scary. It won't be easy to dump Faulk.
