Minten is too good to trade away for a rental and bottom pairing defenceman. Leafs don't have many prospects. If they're included in a deal it must be for a young top 4 D on a good contract.

And the Leafs should avoid trading with the Flames. Their owner's history with Treliving probably means the Leafs will have to overpay in any trade.

I think Hughes would have to deal with backlash by helping Toronto. Trading with Toronto or Boston has added layers.

Xhekaj is a 3rd pairing guy, BUT he brings an element to the team that cannot be easily replaced.

Mitten’s numbers are not that impressive so far. Slightly over a point per game in his draft year and his draft plus 1 year in juniors is not the makings of a can’t miss prospect for Montreal, which is something they probably want in a trade that involves both Monahan and Xhekaj.

I’d do Monahan with retained salary for Minten. But I don’t blame the Leafs for not doing this.

McMann is a decent player, but I feel undrafted college UFAs don’t have a ton of value unless they start producing immediately in the NHL… and if they did start producing, then they wouldn’t be available.

As far as I’m concerned, dealing Xhekaj would have to involve a package that is too good to refuse.

Leafs and Canadians have a 1% chance to complete a trade but leafs obviously decline this every day of the week and twice on Sundays Minten is untouchable so long as we have firsts to spend and there is literally zero chance we spend more then 1 this year just ain’t gonna happen
