Not sure why the Canes would trade Chatfield for a mid round pick. You need to step up the offer to entice a move, otherwise it’s worth it more to just keep him and try to re-sign.

Chatfields a UFA. At some point if the Canes drop out of contention they will start unloading some/all of their UFA's. Chatfield, Skjei, Pesce, Teravainen, could be available. Like you, I think Chatfield could make a great deal of sense.

Even if this happens, Chatfield is a more likely re-sign candidate due to his age and the ability to get him signed at a lower number than Skjei or Pesce.
