Post-Stamkos Roster

Created by: Johnny03
Team: 2024-25 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 11, 2023
Published: Dec. 11, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Too much long-term talent, rebuild is impossible at this point.
Tampa's Defense needs a stabilizer / RD2, Tanev fills the role perfectly-takes a slight discount in exchange for three year term.
Offense takes a hit overall in terms of depth but is still deep, especially if centres pull their weight. Goaltending will be a strength as long as Vasilevskiy stays healthy. Putting Vrana on a scoring line is low-risk, high reward : if things don't work out it's an easy contract to waive. If all things go right, this team could be a playoff contender.

Groshev and Goncalves are going to be in the nhl this season at some point. Finley and Dureau are no where near ready

Their long-term talent is mid-aged players who are mostly 25 and 26, and Point at 27. They should be far from a rebuild, that word shouldn't even be in JBBs vocabulary at this point. They wouldn't have much of a problem trading guys aside from those who have trade protection anyways, biggest issue would be that they don't own their own 1st RD pick until 2026.

4.9M on a 3-year deal isn't much of a discount on Tanev, he'll be 34 when he signs that deal and 37 when it expires. He's more than likely to make less than his current 4.5M on his next deal if it's 3-years+ in term.

there is no way on earth ABB is getting 1.5 over 3 years, I just can't see it. He's far too streaky and inconsistent for a team that needs scoring help in its top six, I'd rather allocate that money to a Daniel Sprong or someone like that instead.

We also have only two right shot forwards on this team. I'll let you figure out the problem there.

If we're offering a D-man 4.9 for 3 years, why not go after Matt Roy if he doesn't get extended in LA? Much younger and provides a steady defensive impact this team could need. If we're offering players that old contracts, why not just bring back Stamkos for the top six? Ship out or bury the 1 year of Perbix and play Jack Thompson at 3RD instead to find more money.
